Chlorpyrifos (CPF) was the most frequently used pesticide in food production European Union (EU) until 2020. Unfortunately, this compound is still being applied other parts of world. National monitoring pesticides conducted various countries indicates presence CPF soil, food, and water, which may have toxic effects on consumers, farmers, animal health. In addition, influence changes population fungi, bacteria, actinomycete soil can inhibit nitrogen mineralization. The mechanisms activity are based inhibition acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity. This also exhibits reproductive toxicity, neurotoxicity, genotoxicity. problem seems to be discrepancy between actual observations final conclusions drawn for substance's approval reports presenting impact human Therefore, a current important issue that requires continuous despite its withdrawal from market EU. review traces scientific describing resulting occurring both environment at cellular tissue level humans animals. It provides an insight into hazards risks health consumer products has been detected.

Multiple epidemiological studies have shown that exposure to pesticides is associated with adverse health outcomes. However, the literature on pesticide-related effects in Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region, an area of intensive agricultural residential pesticide use, sparse. We conducted a scoping review describe current state research LAC populations goal identifying knowledge gaps capacity building needs. We searched PubMed SciELO for human published between January 2007 December 2021. identified 233 publications from 16 countries met our inclusion criteria grouped them by outcome (genotoxicity, neurobehavioral outcomes, placental outcomes teratogenicity, cancer, thyroid function, reproductive birth child growth, others). Most were Brazil (37%, n=88) Mexico (20%, n=46), cross-sectional design (72%, n=167), focused farmworkers (45%, n=105) or children (21%, n=48). The most frequently studied included genotoxicity (24%, n=62) n=54), organophosphate (OP) examined (26%, n=81). Forty-seven percent (n=112) relied only indirect assessment methods. Exposure OP pesticides, carbamates, multiple classes was consistently markers particularly among farmworkers. Our provides some evidence may adversely impact populations, but methodological limitations inconsistencies undermine strength conclusions. It critical increase building, integrate initiatives, conduct more rigorous region address these limitations, better inform public surveillance systems, maximize policies. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP9934.
