Polluting species released in industrial-colored effluents contaminate water, degrading its quality and persisting the aquatic environment; therefore, it must be treated for safe discharge or onsite reuse/recycling to ensure a fresh water supply. This review has principal goal of facilitating understanding some important issues concerning wastewater (WW) treatment systems, mainly based on coagulation–flocculation step, as follows: (i) significance facilities offered by specialized processes, including step single associated (i.e., followed sedimentation/filtration air flotation); (ii) characteristics WW, especially WW from textile industry, which can reduced via step; (iii) primary secondary groups hybrid materials their when used coagulants–flocculants; (iv) influence different process operating variables regimens efficiency studied (v) benefits using colored processes future development perspectives. The consulted scientific reports underline applying coagulants–flocculants treatment, fresh, natural that achieve high removal rates, e.g., dye color >80%, heavy metals, COD BOD >50%, turbidity >90%. All reported data feasibility these polluting (especially dyes) industrial possibility selecting adequate one specific system.

Clean water and sanitation for the world population is one of most important challenges established by Sustainable Development Goals United Nations since worldwide, in three people do not have access to safe drinking water. Groundwater, main sources fresh water, has been considerably damaged human activities. Nevertheless, while numerous plants are globally aimed at removing pollutants from surface waters, a much scarcer number facilities focused on groundwater remediation. Nowadays, there increasing concern about presence nitrates (NO3−) groundwaters as consequence intensive use fertilizers other anthropogenic sources, such sewage or industrial wastewater discharge. In this context, selection development highly effective low-cost solutions sustainable management resources need be addressed. Thus, work collects data literature regarding groundwater, and, simultaneously, it reviews alternatives available remove NO3− sources. A total 292 sites analyzed categorized continents, carefully discussing possible origins nitrate pollution. addition, discussion carried out different technologies currently employed treat highlighting progress made overcome. Finally, review gathers treatment full-scale.

Abstract Microplastic pollution is becoming a major issue for human health due to the recent discovery of microplastics in most ecosystems. Here, we review sources, formation, occurrence, toxicity and remediation methods microplastics. We distinguish ocean-based land-based sources Microplastics have been found biological samples such as faeces, sputum, saliva, blood placenta. Cancer, intestinal, pulmonary, cardiovascular, infectious inflammatory diseases are induced or mediated by exposure during pregnancy maternal period also discussed. Remediation include coagulation, membrane bioreactors, sand filtration, adsorption, photocatalytic degradation, electrocoagulation magnetic separation. Control strategies comprise reducing plastic usage, behavioural change, using biodegradable plastics. Global production has risen dramatically over past 70 years reach 359 million tonnes. China world's top producer, contributing 17.5% global production, while Turkey generates waste Mediterranean region, at 144 tonnes per day. 75% marine waste, with responsible 80–90% pollution, account only 10–20%. induce toxic effects on humans animals, cytotoxicity, immune response, oxidative stress, barrier attributes, genotoxicity, even minimal dosages 10 μg/mL. Ingestion animals results alterations gastrointestinal tract physiology, system depression, differential gene expression, growth inhibition. Furthermore, bioaccumulation tissues aquatic organisms can adverse ecosystem, potential transmission birds. Changing individual behaviours governmental actions, implementing bans, taxes, pricing carrier bags, significantly reduced consumption 8–85% various countries worldwide. The microplastic minimisation approach follows an upside-down pyramid, starting prevention, followed reducing, reusing, recycling, recovering, ending disposal least preferable option.

Semiconductor-based photocatalytic reactions are a practical class of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) to address energy scarcity and environmental pollution. By utilizing solar as clean, abundant, renewable source, this process offers numerous advantages, including high efficiency, eco-friendliness, low cost. In review, we present several methods construct various photocatalyst systems with excellent visible light absorption efficient charge carrier separation ability through the optimization materials design reaction conditions. Then it introduces fundamentals photocatalysis in both clean generation remediation. other parts, introduce approaches enhance activity by applying different strategies, semiconductor structure modification (e.g., morphology regulation, co-catalysts decoration, doping, defect engineering, surface sensitization, heterojunction construction) tuning optimizing conditions (such concentration, initial contaminant pH, temperature, intensity, charge-carrier scavengers). Then, comparative study on performance recently examined photocatalysts applied production remediation will be discussed. To realize these goals, H2 via water splitting, CO2 reduction value-added products, dye, drug photodegradation lessen toxic chemicals, presented. Over the past few decades, there has been a significant increase in population and unsustainable urbanization, resulting exploitation of water energy resources on large scale. This led to rise demand for freshwater, which, turn, caused pollution due improper disposal wastewater from various sources such as industries, agriculture, households. The industries often contains toxic heavy metals harmful emerging contaminants (ECs), which can harm living beings cannot biodegrade. Hence, it is severe issue that needs be addressed. To combat this problem, treatments are necessary two main reasons: firstly, recycle reuse meet future human reduce scarcity, secondly, ensure compliance with discharge standards environmental sustainability while minimizing groundwater soil contamination. In review, several treatment technologies comprising physical, chemical, biological methods have discussed critically. state-of-the-art discussion different existing techniques their limitations deliberated. Finally, contemporary trends highlighted.
