This is a preliminary study conducted to analyze the presence and concentration of pesticides in honey obtained from bee colonies located two regions with managed ecosystems that differ intensity technification agricultural practices. Fourteen at variable concentrations were detected 63% samples analyzed. The most frequently found higher insecticides (neonicotinoids, followed by organophosphates), herbicides, fungicides. number, frequency, collected hives where intensive highly-technified agriculture practiced. Forty-three percent zone had residues imidacloprid, compared only 13% less-technified zone. Furthermore, 87.5% those imidacloprid above sublethal doses for bees (>0.25 ng/g) but are not considered hazardous human health European Commission. results this suggest can be used as bioindicator environmental contamination pesticides, which highlights need continue monitoring contaminants product determine risks pesticide impacts on pollinator health, ecosystems, their potential implications other non-target organisms.

The accumulating scientific evidence on global insect and pollinator decline is fuelling calls for conservation policies. A broad range of regulating incentivising policies undoubtedly needed to address the diverse threats abundance diversity, but implementing regulations beset by socio-political challenges. Lessons could be learned from past current applications concepts central biodiversity conservation. Given uncertainties data gaps, concept Precautionary Principle (PP) particularly important. PP means that when it scientifically plausible human activities may lead morally unacceptable harm, actions shall taken avoid or diminish harm: uncertainty should not an excuse delay action. This paper reviews role in research front fragmented: briefly mentioned as relevant literature because regarding their drivers. separate strand contains studies specific cases where has played a regulation pollinators: systemic insecticides trade bees. Double-stranded RNAs (dsRNAs) represent a promising class of biosafe insecticidal compounds. We examined the ability to induce RNA interference (RNAi) in pollen beetle Brassicogethes aeneus via anther feeding, and compared short-term (3 d) chronic (17 feeding various concentrations dsRNA targeting αCOP (dsαCOP). In dsαCOP only highest concentration resulted significant reductions B. survival; whereas all three mortality. Chronic also significantly greater mortality equivalent concentrations. Our results have implications for economics development spray approaches managing crop pests, that multiple lower-concentration treatments across growth stages may result pest management efficacy, single using higher Furthermore, our highlight need research into RNAi cultivars oilseed rape protection, given enhanced efficacy resulting from chronic, short-term, aeneus.

Anopheles darlingi is the main vector of malaria in Brazil, characterized by a high level anthropophilia and endophagy. Imidacloprid, thiacloprid, acetamiprid are most widespread insecticides neonicotinoid group. However, they produce adverse effects on non-target insects. Flupyradifurone has been marketed as an alternative to non-fluorinated neonicotinoids. Neonicotinoids containing trifluoroacethyl substituent reveal increased insecticidal activity due higher hydrophobicity metabolic stability. We synthesized novel fluorinated acceptor groups their interactions were estimated with nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) binding site molecular docking studies, evaluate larvicidal against A. darlingi, assess outdoor photodegradation behavior. New analogues prepared NMR mass-spectrometry. The molecules modelled time-dependent density functional theory analyzed, interaction nAChR was investigated docking. In this study, a life cycle assessment was to quantify freshwater ecotoxicity, human toxicity carcinogenic effects, and noncarcinogenic effects pesticide use relation 9341 individual Australian adult daily The three environmental indicators were also combined footprint, diet quality score applied each diet. Energy-dense nutrient-poor discretionary foods, fruits, protein-rich foods sources most dietary impacts. Problematically, shift toward recommended diets found increase footprint compared current average Using quadrant analysis, identified 38% lower footprint. This achieved mainly through reduction intake by limiting choice fresh fruits. As latter contradicts recommendations eat variety fruits different types colors, we concluded that change may not be best approach lowering impacts pesticides system. Instead, targeted action horticultural industry more effective. Consumers might encourage transition supporting growers reduce apply less environmentally harmful active ingredients.

Abstract Background Large amounts of insecticide-containing dusts produced from abrasion the seed dressing can be released into atmosphere during sowing operations. Neonicotinoid pesticides, introduced in 1990s for several crops, are leading products seed-coating treatments many countries. containing effectively intercepted by bees flight over field, inducing lethal acute effects, so that restrictions use main neonicotinoids have been adopted European Union. This led to consequent introduction replacement insecticides seed-coating, i.e. methiocarb and thiacloprid, despite lack information on both toxicity exposure scenarios honeybees. Results In this study, a laboratory apparatus was developed order quantify coating. quantification is based (i) an airstream transporting coating particles chamber; (ii) reproducible measurable concentrations insecticide, (iii) direct measurement dose single bees. The method allowed us perform vivo experiments honeybee provide data more realistic conditions. fact, formulation rather than active principle alone tested, through solution specific absorption behavior studied representative environmental used (LD 50 ) obtained corn seeds coated with clothianidin, thiacloprid methiocarb. Conclusions Our results show that, surprisingly, insecticide has = 421–693 ng/bee) same magnitude as clothianidin 113–451 route, while 16.9·10 3 significantly lower toxicity. Moreover, significant increase when, after exposure, kept under high humidity suggests here presented obtain complementary risk assessment procedure authorization new or formulations.
