This review presents a comprehensive analysis of the ecological implications metallic nanoparticles (MNPs) on photosynthetic organisms, particularly plants and algae. We delve into toxicological impacts various MNPs, including gold, silver, copper-based, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide nanoparticles, elucidating their effects growth health these organisms. The article also summarizes toxicity mechanisms in algae from previous research, providing insight cellular molecular interactions that underpin effects. Furthermore, it discusses reciprocal between different types combined with other metal contaminants, compares MNPs counterpart. highlights urgent need for deeper understanding environmental impact, considering escalating use potential risks they pose to systems, especially context organisms are vital ecosystem stability.

The concept of circular economy, aiming at increasing the sustainability products and services in water other sectors, is gaining momentum worldwide. Driven by this concept, novel bio-composite materials produced recovering resources from different parts cycle are now manufactured Netherlands. new used for such as canal bank protection elements, an alternative to similar elements made hardwood. As much these appealing point view, they may leach toxic substances into aquatic environment given some their ingredients, e.g., cellulose recovered wastewater treatment. Therefore, a methodology assessment related environmental risks needed it does not exist currently. This paper addresses knowledge gap presenting framework this. based on European risk guidelines, includes four key steps: (i) hazard identification, (ii) dose-response modelling, (iii) exposure (iv) characterisation (i.e. assessment). part first step, laboratory leaching tests were carried out evaluate potential release specific chemical heavy metals resin compounds environment. Laboratory test results then input data surface water. A deterministic model was identify chemicals exceeding guideline threshold. Subsequently, stochastic applied across range leachate concentrations velocities canal, thereby simulating broader spectrum possible situations. analyses conducted two flow conditions (stagnant advective flow) types canals (wide ditch primary watercourse) levels season (summer winter conditions). obtained identified Cu, Mn, Zn, styrene furfuryl alcohol potentially troublesome chemicals. In case stagnant water, absence rate increases residence time resulting higher PEC/PNEC risk) value. However, under conditions, all considered turned be below safety case, existence rate, even low 'almost no flow,' contributes increased dilution, lower ratio values. presented here, though representing real-case scenarios, only indicative number assumptions made. Additional field involving collecting analysing sediment samples where located, over prolonged period, required come up with more conclusive findings.
