Abstract Micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) are ubiquitous environmental pollutants representing a concern for human health. MNPs have been detected in placentas, indicating that during pregnancy maternal exposure may lead to placental transfer foetal exposure, with potential adverse effects on early-life development. However, comprehensive risk assessment (RA) framework, specific is lacking. Here, we propose novel roadmap assist the development of an health RA MNPs. This designed based established chemical, mixture, particle, MNP strategies aligned standard components (problem formulation, hazard identification, characterisation, assessment, characterisation). We systematically work through these stages identify what needed progress impacts MNPs, including information missing, be used interim. While challenges such as complex physicochemical properties limited toxicity data at relevant levels, uncertainties related characterising exposures described elsewhere, our discusses how specifically impact significance presence biological samples factors influencing bioaccumulation transfer. Plastics are ubiquitous materials in our daily lives, but their inadequate disposal has led to the widespread distribution of micro- and nanoparticles various ecosystems. Their detection feed food, as well livestock human stool samples, strongly suggests a continuous circulation food chain. The ability plastic particles penetrate intestinal barrier determines accumulation body animal origin. gastrointestinal (GI) microbiome, whose fermentation activity can influence particle size certain which is known modulate permeability barrier, may be critical hub this transfer. This review attempts summarise research efforts date on interaction between microplastics (MPs) GI microbiome humans, mice, chickens aquatic animals. We have analysed state knowledge identified future avenues for targeted approaches answer open questions regarding with help develop predictive models from products, respectively.

Antibiotic resistance is a public health emergency, with ten million deaths estimated annually by the year 2050. Water systems are an important medium for development and dissemination of antibiotic from variety sources, explored in this perspective review. Hospital wastewater more broadly breeding grounds because nature their waste how it processed. Corporations various sectors contribute to many direct indirect ways. Pharmaceutical factory runoff, agricultural use, use nitrogen fertilizers, heavy metal pollution, air pollution (atmospheric deposition, burning oil and/or fossil fuels), plastic/microplastic oil/petroleum spills/pollution have all been demonstrated resistance. Mitigation strategies reduce these pathways discussed future directions hypothesized.

Abstract This study is a detailed investigation into the size variations of microplastic (MP) particles that are released from “common use” paper cups hot beverages. Therefore, this was aimed at quantification and classification MPs through liquids contained in cups. It observed as many 6,00,000 can potentially be 100 ml beverage disposable cup during 15 min exposure time. The with various morphological features, SEM imaging, includes defined shapes (spherical rod-like) also irregularly shaped particles. distribution revealed predominance 2–5 µm range small fraction larger than µm. composition found to high density polyethylene (HDPE). has been estimated routine users beverages such may unconsciously ingest 219 million annually by using single daily around 657–876 year due use 3–4 per day. consumption could affect health human beings release environment.
