Microplastic pollution poses a significant threat to coastal ecosystems, prompting an in-depth investigation into its seasonal fluctuations and ecological impacts. This study examines microplastics in Cuddalore's waters sediments across four seasons. Results show varying microplastic concentrations, peaking during the monsoon pre-monsoon seasons, likely influenced by rainfall variability. Fibers dominate both water (69–100%) sediment samples (66–92%), with polyethylene terephthalate as predominant polymer types water. Sediments exhibit more diverse distribution, polypropylene prevalent. Pollution load index indicates low (1.0–1.4), while hazard potential risk indices raise concerns, reaching values of 108930 1125, respectively. underscores urgency implementing effective management strategies safeguard tropical ecosystems from pollution. The highlights complex interplay between dynamics, variability, types, levels, emphasizing need for proactive environmental measures.
