Abstract Eutrophication has become a recurrent concern in reservoirs worldwide. This problem is intensified tropical semiarid regions, where the have high seasonal and annual variability of water level volume. Therefore, an extensive understanding diel variation quality key-parameters can help improve management such reservoirs. study focuses on Castanhão reservoir, largest multipurpose dam Brazilian semiarid. Its main uses are irrigation, fish farming, human supply. The reservoir faced decline due to prolonged drought period. While previous research predominantly emphasized dynamics thermal chemical stratification, our investigation provides assessments multiple parameters, including nutrient concentrations phytoplankton abundance. Our primary objective compare variations stratification distribution within reservoir. Key findings reveal cycle primarily during dry season, driven by higher wind speeds. corroborated significant negative correlation between speed relative column stability index. In contrast, rainy experiences continuous inflowing being warmer than reservoir’s temperature. Notably, total phosphorus chlorophyll-a, along with two-fold increase this throughout day underscores influence community variation. Chemical dissolved oxygen occurred seasons, indicating that even there no inflow, internal loading also significantly impact advances reservoirs, shedding light both climatic anthropogenic influences resources.

It is crucial to monitor algal blooms in freshwater reservoirs through an examination of chlorophyll-a (Chla) concentrations, as they indicate the trophic condition these waterbodies. Traditional monitoring methods, however, are expensive and time-consuming. Addressing this hindrance, we conducted a comprehensive investigation using several machine learning models for Chla modeling. To end, used situ collected water sample data remote sensing from Sentinel-2 satellite, including spectral bands indices, large-scale coverage. This approach allowed us conduct analysis characterization concentrations across 149 Ceará, semi-arid region Brazil. The implemented included k-nearest neighbors, random forest, extreme gradient boosting, least absolute shrinkage, group method handling (GMDH); particular, GMDH has not been previously explored context. forward stepwise was determine best subset input parameters. Using 70/30 split training testing datasets, best-performing model model, achieving R2 0.91, MAPE 102.34%, RMSE 20.4 μg/L, which were values consistent with ones found literature. Nevertheless, predicted concentration most sensitive red, green, near-infrared bands.

The protection of water quality in reservoirs, particularly those designated for supply, has garnered increasing attention environmental management purposes. In this paper, the Shuangxikou Reservoir Yuyao was chosen as a case study. pollutant load at various points within reservoir analyzed and its eutrophication level evaluated through combination site surveys regular monitoring. Additionally, model trial algorithm utilized to investigate environment capacity concerning key indicators such COD, NH3-N, TN, TP Reservoir. results indicated that nutrient fell mid-trophic range, with being superior central region compared other areas. However, when target Class II surface mandated by functional zoning, current TN content exceeds acceptable levels. Consequently, targeted measures are imperative enhance reservoir.

Climate change affects the security of global water supply. However, only a few studies on effects drought quality in Asia have been published. In 2021, Taiwan faced its most severe crisis past 56 years. The Te-Chi reservoir, situated at an elevation exceeding 1420 m, stands out as significantly affected by hydrologic variability. Overcoming geographical challenges, we captured exceptional climatic period to sample and analyze quality. Subsequently, investigated multivariate long-term data incorporating climate hydrological information evaluate effect reservoir. results showed annual average temperature had risen about 1.4 °C while total rainfall declined over 18 30-year from 1993 2022 was analyzed examined change. There observed upward trend electrical conductivity reservoir water. concentration dissolved oxygen decreasing trend, which may be attributed increase due Besides, level dropped during drought, found that phosphorus, nitrogen tended increase, transparency decreased. Consequently, further explored potential pollution sources extreme statistical methods, such Pearson's correlations, principal component analysis, factor analysis. We four varimax rotated components collectively explain 82% variation with level, signifying their representativeness interpreting monitoring data. also assessed contribution each specific parameters, can aid better management resources challenging conditions. conclusion, this study provides evidence raises awareness multiple parameters. are weather, is predicted occur more frequently future thus could affect energy scarcity, public health food safety for sustainable operation. underscores adaptive management, mitigation strategies research direction.
