Background
China
is
the
top
global
consumer,
importer,
and
producer

coal,
accounting
for
about
half
world’s
totals.
Yet
despite
all
this
progress
in
renewable
energy,
coal
still
provided
56
percent
China’s
energy
consumption,

fourth-largest
reserve
globally.
