Abstract This paper reviews the literature, concepts, and operationalizations of concept entrepreneurial ecosystems. Despite some interest at national level, entrepreneurship is understood to take place in localities or, most, regions, drawing on local resources, institutions, networks. Bibliometric evidence shows that usage term ecosystem has overtaken other such as environments for entrepreneurship, which also highlight mechanisms, networks, cultures support entrepreneurs. review addresses several specific topics: choice scale, universities hubs, how ecosystems evolve. followed by suggestions toward an agenda future research, placing particular attention methodologies.

Abstract Governments are increasingly focusing their efforts on stimulating innovation within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). As a result, university-industry-government collaboration is gaining importance among the agenda of policymakers to enable open in SMEs. However, these inter-organisational relationships often fail meet expectations, especially when projects oriented pre-competitive R&D. Nevertheless, literature has not yet provided sufficient evidence challenges related participation traditional SMEs (i.e., low- medium-low tech SMEs) this specific type collaboration. We collected qualitative data analyse longitudinally three projects, exploring main faced by have bracketed four phases: initiation planning phase, execution closing monitoring control phase. For each phases we individuated firm- project-level challenges, providing practical theoretical insights for scholars.

Abstract Our study addresses a popular question in entrepreneurship research—to what extent does the quality of region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem matter for venture survival? To tackle this question, we created regional index based on five key characteristics: supportive culture, access to finance, availability human capital, innovation capacity, and formal support organizations. We analyze 301 United States Metropolitan Statistical Areas these characteristics measure aggregated contextual influence survival within regions over time. In addition analyzing relationship between survival, also consider moderating role founders’ experience outcomes. findings confirm that, general, higher ecosystems shelter ventures, while ventures weaker are more likely fade away fail.
