Purpose The proliferation of industry platforms has disrupted several industries. Firms adopting a platform business model have experienced substantial expansion in size and scale, positioning themselves as the foremost valuable entities market capitalization. Over past two decades, there been body literature dedicated to platforms, different streams research emerged. Despite considerable efforts significant progress made recent years toward comprehensive understanding is still room for further harnessing field’s diversity. As result, aim this article examine structure, identify concerns provide suggestions future research, thereby enhancing overall platforms. Design/methodology/approach We conducted thorough examination 458 articles on topic using bibliometric methods systematic review techniques. Findings Through co-citation analysis, we identified five distinct clusters rooted various bodies literature: two-sided markets, digital innovation networks. Furthermore, these revealed three key areas that demand consideration: (1) terminologies, (2) classifications (3) perspectives.
