Abstract
Tomato
peel
by-products
contain
high
levels
of
lycopene,
which
has
traditionally
been
extracted
using
organic
solvents.
This
research
focuses
on
the
optimisation
a
sustainable
method
to
obtain
lycopene-rich
extract
biodegradable
anionic
surfactant
sodium
dodecyl
sulphate
(SDS).
A
Plackett–Burman
experimental
design
was
used
investigate
effect
seven
factors
extraction
carotenoids
from
tomato
peels
(SDS
volume
and
concentration,
homogenisation
intensity
time,
sonication
phase,
time
ultracentrifugation
intensity).
Based
responses
total
carotenoid
extraction,
SDS
volume,
use
ultrasound
significantly
influenced
yield
were
selected
for
Box–Wilson
design.

work

an
