Background: Psychological disorders are prevalent in patients having undergone gastrointestinal cancer surgery, and their emotional status may further deteriorate during subsequent chemotherapy. Psychobiotics specific probiotics that have the unique characteristics of producing neuroactive substances thought to act on brain-gut axis. The aim present study was evaluate benefits a psychobiotic formula depression anxiety status, as well perceived stress, versus placebo chemotherapy course following surgery for cancer. Patients: enrolled patients, allocated groups, were assessed by means these psychometric tests: Beck's Depression Inventory Hamilton Rating 17-item Scale depression; General Anxiety Disorder-7 anxiety; Perceived Stress Scale-14 Item stress at three time-points: upon allocation [T1], after one month treatment [T2], two months thereafter [T3]. Results: In total, 266 included. One improved [i] 60.4% [48 depressed T1, reduced 16 T3]; [ii] 57.0% [72 26 [iii] [42 14 T3]. placebo-treated experienced deterioration all parameters studied, i.e., increased 62.9%, 39.7%, 142.5%. Conclusions: Based findings, it can be recognized has great potential every patient risk suffering from depression, anxiety, or surgery/chemotherapy

The gut-brain axis (GBA) is a bidirectional communication network between the gastrointestinal tract and brain, modulated by gut microbiota related biomarkers. Malnutrition disrupts GBA homeostasis, exacerbating dysfunction through dysbiosis, impaired neuroactive metabolite production, systemic inflammation. Nutraceuticals, including probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, postbiotics, paraprobiotics, offer promising approach to improving homeostasis modulating composition metabolites. This review aims elucidate interplay microbiota-derived biomarkers in malnutrition evaluate potential of nutraceuticals combating malnutrition. Furthermore, it explores future personalised nutraceutical interventions tailored individual genetic microbiome profiles, providing targeted optimise health outcomes. integration into management could transform treatment improve cognitive metabolic health.
