Geosites are windows into the geological past, which may be recorded in rocks and their properties, fossil content, landform produced by processes no longer operating. Since histories of sedimentation, life, landscape evolution to a certain extent controlled climatic conditions, some geosites used as illustrations various themes linked issue climate change. In this paper, coherent systematic framework is proposed for how look at through lens Four major aspects relevance recognized: (i) providing evidence changing conditions past; (ii) an environment different than that today place; (iii) extreme weather events; (iv) dynamic geosites, subject change response ongoing The use raise awareness educate public about faces interpretation challenges. particular, linking with requires caution balanced presentation most record changes occurred without any anthropogenic component. preferred focus should on environmental instability general rather specific reasons

Geological heritage sites (geosites) have various properties such as accessibility, geometry, and vulnerability, well age. It is reasonable to distinguish the geological ages related content of geosites (e.g., Early Ordovician or Valanginian) from technical physical appearance (forms) Late Pleistocene, Prehistoric, 21st century). This study examines 17 known Western Caucasus–a geologically-rich area Greater Caucasus orogen. The revision update stratigraphical information allow establish their ages. are defined old (before 19th century), historical (19th–20th centuries), young (the beginning results show that analyzed shed light on lengthy time span (from late Proterozoic Quaternary), Cisuralian–Early Cretaceous sedimentary succession represented with significant completeness. Technically, chiefly old, although features also common. outcomes this do not only systematize knowledge Caucasus, but several practical implications (for instance, conservation technically priority, important arrange logically for educational touristic excursions).

This study characterizes the submerged geomorphology around Annobón, São Tomé, and Príncipe Islands, De Santarém–Escobar seamount in Cameroon Volcanic Line or CVL (Gulf of Guinea, West Africa) through analyses topographic relief coastal bathymetry, data from fieldwork historical fossil collections. The clear relation between each island morphology various stages coral reef development according to Darwin’s subsidence hypothesis meets concept intangible geoheritage. type geoheritage is related phenomena rather than a thing, it usually highly evaluated by scientific communities. Academics tend use science-based discourse explain this theory, but rarely understood non-specialist audiences. work proposes virtual geo-itinerary along islands seamounts, which aims at telling geohistory reefs’ origin evolution disclosing its contents for further sustainable uses. resulting narrative can be used support geotourism initiatives United Nations’ objectives Small Island Developing States.

The Rudny Altai is a western segment of the orogenic belt. Its geological richness makes its geoheritage exploration an urgent matter. Investigations in Loktevsky District (Altai Region, Russian Federation) have led to finding three notable localities, which are proposed as geosites. Field investigations and both qualitative semi-quantitative (scoring by criteria) studies were carried out characterize value properties these localities. Neverovsky palaeoreef relatively large geosite, representing Frasnian reef developed on volcanic edifice. Zolotukha section Razdolnoe smaller geosites deep-marine facies Giventian–Frasnian transition late Frasnian, respectively. Seven types established palaeoreef, four other two Examination rarity, accessibility, vulnerability, allows ranking globally regionally. need special geoconservation measures (especially regarding their rich fossil content). can be used for promotion local tourism.
