Hunger (811 million people, 2020) and food waste (931 tonnes annually, are long-standing interconnected challenges that have plagued humankind for centuries. Food originates from various sources, including consumption habits failures within the supply chain. Given growing concerns regarding insecurity, malnutrition, hunger, there is a pressing need to recover repurpose as much possible. A body of knowledge identifies valorisation (including upcycling) one strategies fight hunger by positively impacting availability security. This paper evaluates potential role valorisation, upcycling, in reducing global hunger. literature search was conducted examine how converting into value-added products, such formulations farming inputs, can contribute increasing availability. The benefits waste-to-food operations improving through producing ingredients products materials would been wasted or discarded otherwise were discussed.

The urgent call for environmentally sustainable methods and bio-based products to meet the 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 is particularly crucial in Africa, notably Nigeria. challenge lies integrating a systemic approach, viewing world holistically, prioritizing environmental preservation alongside economic development. Addressing pressing issues like climate change, biodiversity loss, habitat preservation, poverty, hunger, disease requires concurrent focus on cleaner energy sources, improved air water quality, efficient resource conservation, fair food distribution, accessible healthcare. Stringent regulations, vigilant oversight, effective enforcement are imperative curb emissions, pollution, waste. Simultaneously, directing research toward bio-production, restoration, turning oil palm resources into value-added bio-products via integrated algal/oil biorefineries crucial. Exploring biochemical applications pharmacy part of this pursuit. An evaluation Nigeria's mill life cycle, scrutinizing practices potential, was conducted. pathway industry, addressing electricity crises, fossil fuel dependency, waste management, fostering cities, involves converting wealth residue biorefineries. Achieving could mean building new or revamping existing ones through hybrid system. Despite unrealized policies, Nigeria can address while harnessing bioenergy, biopharmaceuticals, biochemicals an refinery.
