Recent research focused on its combination with nanoparticle-based systems or microneedles expand therapeutic applications. This review explores fundamental principles iontophoresis, focusing key factors influencing transport mechanisms, provides a discussion field's current state. A comprehensive analysis articles published available online in 2024 was conducted, categorizing studies by their application areas, systems, iontophoretic conditions, experimental limitations. The findings reveal recent focus wound healing repair, advancements treating inflammation, pain, cancer. Market translation requires standardized protocols, particularly parameters preclinical models, along development cost-effective commercial devices. Additionally, while cutaneous have increasingly benefited from machine learning approaches, iontophoresis remains underexplored.
