Various studies have described changes regarding substance abuse, but findings are conflicting. Study design We conducted a cross-sectional online survey nicotine, alcohol, illicit drug use. Methods From March to May 2023, 502 participants aged 14–24 from community-based sample completed questionnaire. Results found general trend declining or stable use during first 2 years pandemic; however, in third year (i.e., 2022), returned pre-pandemic levels exceeded it. Compared with adults (age 19–24), adolescents’ 14–18) increased more clearly. Participants who scored above cut-off screening measures for problematic showed pronounced increase cigarettes drugs not alcohol. Higher alcohol consumption lockdowns was associated likelihood current (odds ratio [OR]: 3.03) cannabis (OR: 2.60). Furthermore, individuals reported usage one psychotropic were likely their other substances as well 2.66–4.87). Conclusions Although optimally generalizable due retrospective format convenience sampling, our results support notion that special attention ought be paid certain subgroups such younger people those already exhibit pandemic. Following up post-pandemic trends is crucial developing prevention targeted interventions.
