Soil quality restoration and crop productivity maximization are the global challenge to feed galloping population. The task is much more daunting in a risk-prone, fragile, low productive hilly region due depletion of supporting regulating ecosystem services. A five-year long-term (2012–2017) field experiment was conducted stabilize yield soil through legume green manuring residue recycling intensified cropping systems Eastern Himalayan India. Four treatments involving three manures [green gram ( Vigna radiata ); cowpea unguiculata Sesbania aculeata ) along with control (no-green manure)], [groundnut Arachis hypogaea )—pea Pisum sativum maize Zea mays )—pea, + groundnut–pea] two levels management practices [residue removal retention] were evaluated times replicated split–split plot design. With the dramatic increased use of agricultural film, potential environmental risks associated with it have been receiving widespread attention. Biodegradable film (BF) is considered an alternative to conventional polyethylene (PF), but its feasibility replace PF needs be verified. Thus, we conducted a two-year field experiment in Loess Plateau region China, exploring effects residual biodegradable and (RBF RPF) on soil moisture, maize root, productivity at different levels (75 kg ha−1, 150 ha−1 300 ha−1). Regardless type, water content (SWC), root length density (RLD), surface area (RSD) all decreased increasing level; this phenomenon observed significant differences when level exceeded ha−1. Different organs (root shoot) differed their sensitivity period film. The degradation rate RBF was 59.24%, which higher than that RPF. Compared RPF treatments, SWC, RLD, RSD, biomass, root–shoot ratio treatments were closer no treatment second growing season. After experiment, compared grain yield, efficiency, precipitation efficiency 0.41–6.24%, 0.12–4.44%, 0.41–06.24%. application BF beneficial sustainable production dryland, finding efficient methods recycle remains priority.

The intensity and frequency of droughts are projected to rise in recent years adversely affect forests. Thus, information on plant water use acclimation during after is crucial.
