Abstract Despite internet use potentially reducing loneliness among older adults during the Covid-19 pandemic, quantitative research in this area is limited. Our study addresses gap by exploring how affects worsening old age across Europe from a gendered perspective. We adopt comprehensive approach, considering individual and contextual factors. Using multi-level modelling, we analyse data Survey of Health, Ageing Retirement (Wave 8 Corona 1), supplemented Oxford Government Response Tracker Eurostat Digital Agenda Scoreboard Key Indicators. The empirical analysis has revealed gender-specific differences relationship between people with contributing to increased for women, but not men. In addition, our indicates that while factors, namely severity contingency measures quality connection, are moderators worsening, stringency index specifically exacerbates women. These findings contribute development more effective targeted interventions combat promote wellbeing particularly context global health crises such as pandemic.

Abstract In terms of work ability, impacts the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on functional ability warrant investigation. The aim is to explore trends in limitations 2004–22 focusing among older working-aged Europeans different labor market groups and at levels COVID-19 stringency policies. Data come from Survey Health, Ageing Retirement Europe (SHARE) collected 2004–22. Individuals aged 55–69 years 27 countries were included (N = 245 060). Outcome was (Global Activity Limitation Index). Generalized estimating equations used analyze time within 2004–22, likelihood increased slightly men but remained same women. Functional more likely with low moderate as compared high (which represents mostly Southern Europe) both women men. During ∼1st year pandemic, decreased especially stringency. Decreases observed all groups. ∼2nd not statistically significantly most Policymakers should be aware policy decisions while pursuing prolong careers. Results The findings indicate significant association where initial predicted later ( β = 0.038, p < 0.001), increased was linked positive behavior 0.109, 0.001). Multigroup revealed connection or remained those with no change increase but not decrease. Conclusion suggested drive engage can augment effect. These results underscore importance addressing providing reliable support managing infectious disease risks.
