It is well-documented that large-scale pollution generated by human activity has a dramatic impact on ecosystems. In this context, removing harmful chemicals via photocatalysis tremendous potential as depollution method, utilizing freely available solar light and catalytic materials with low or negligible ecotoxicity. The main drawbacks, which aren’t often addressed in the literature, are formation of intermediate products, reaction rates, limited catalyst stability, difficult recovery. most cases, published works assess efficiency tested photocatalysts from pollutant degradation studies, whereas identifying quantifying by-products not conducted. This review summarizes recent advances reported for photocatalytic removal some organic (e.g., alcohols, carboxylic acids, volatile compounds, phenol) inorganic NO3−) contaminants. various UV- visible-light active pathways were explained, emphasizing factors contributing to their mineralization. mechanisms, identification quantification intermediates, implication reactive species (ROS) discussed analyzed each category model target pollutant. Additionally, actual challenges future approaches improve environmental remediation presented.

Among the most challenging problems that human beings appear to face are depleting energy sources and increasing environmental pollutions. Heterogeneous photocatalytic processes rewarding technology generate renewable degrade pollutants. In these processes, semiconductors used as photocatalysts. ZnO is a widely photocatalyst, because of its strong oxidation ability, cost effectiveness, non-toxicity, versatility in synthesis, abundance nature, ease crystallization. However, pure has some drawbacks, due wide band gap, poor solar-light utilization, rapid recombination photoinduced charge carriers. Modification using different strategies including coupling with narrow gap semiconductors, noble metal deposition, surface sensitization by organic dyes, elemental doping can easily address shortcomings. addition, separation photocatalysts from treated systems limits their broad applications. Incorporation magnetic materials will help recycling external field. This combination leads new generation photocatalysts, known magnetically separable The present review provides helpful insights into preparation based on applications for degradations
