In this study, we explored the relationship between social isolation, loneliness, and functional impairment in 50-year-old participants, by sex. Using longitudinal data from China Health Retirement Longitudinal Study (2018 2020), 6,524 participants meeting inclusion criteria were analyzed. A cross-lag model was established to explore associations activities of daily living (ADL), instrumental ADL (IADL) disability over time, with results stratified Social isolation not significantly associated IADL disability, but loneliness was. Autoregressive indicated that 2018 predicted their exacerbations 2020 (p < 0.001). Cross-lag analysis showed time-lagged effect on greater women (β = 0.27) than men 0.06); 0.16) 0.05). The bidirectional effects opposite patterns sexes. Functional isolation. Sex differences observed disability. These findings extend our understanding association relationships non-Western populations.

Elderly individuals living alone represent a vulnerable group with limited family support, making them more susceptible to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. This study aims construct network model of anxiety symptoms among older adults alone, exploring the correlations centrality different symptoms. The goal is identify core bridging inform clinical interventions. Using data from 2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS), this constructed elderly alone. Depression were assessed using Center for Epidemiologic Studies Scale-10 (CESD-10) Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7 (GAD-7), respectively. A Gaussian Graphical Model (GGM) was employed build symptom network, Fruchterman-Reingold algorithm used visualization, thickness color edges representing partial between To minimize spurious correlations, Least Absolute Shrinkage Selection Operator (LASSO) method applied regularization, optimal regularization parameters selected Extended Bayesian Information Criterion (EBIC). We further calculated Expected Influence (EI) Bridge (Bridge EI) evaluate importance Non-parametric bootstrap methods assess stability accuracy network. Network analysis revealed that GAD2 (Uncontrollable worry) GAD4 (Trouble relaxing) exhibited highest strength (1.128 1.102, respectively), indicating their significant direct associations other roles nodes in Other highly central nodes, GAD1 (Nervousness or anxiety) GAD3 (Generalized worry), underscore dominance overall Betweenness results highlighted critical bridge facilitating information flow symptoms, while CESD3 (Feeling depressed) demonstrated role across modules. In the older population, depression, loneliness, and quality of life are closely related, significantly influencing health status. This paper aimed (1) to investigate autoregressive cross-lagged associations over 2 years between life, (2) examine sex-related differences in 2-year a large sample European citizens aged ≥ 50 years.

This study explores the association between financial strain and loneliness over time, investigates as a mediator in relationship mental health, examines influence of gender. Longitudinal study. Using data from six waves (2017-2023) UK Household Study (UKHLS), which includes 34,535 participants (154,316 person-years), this employs fixed-effects regression models. Financial is significantly associated with increased time (b = .155, p < .001). Loneliness partially mediates accounting for approximately 15 % effect. Notably, health moderated by gender .120, .001), women experiencing more severe negative effects. These findings suggest that alleviating could reduce its detrimental effects on health. Addressing social stressors essential public strategies. Implementing gender-sensitive approaches critical addressing specific vulnerabilities, particularly among women.
