A projected doubling in the global population of people aged ≥60 y by year 2050 has major health and economic implications, especially developing regions. Burdens unhealthy aging associated with chronic noncommunicable other age-related diseases may be largely preventable lifestyle modification, including diet. However, as adults age they become at risk "nutritional frailty," which can compromise their ability to meet nutritional requirements a time when specific nutrient needs high. This review highlights role nutrition science promoting healthy improving prognosis cases diseases. It serves identify key knowledge gaps implementation challenges support adequate for aging, applicability metrics used body-composition diet adequacy older mechanisms reduce frailty promote resilience. also discusses management recommendations several leading conditions common populations, cognitive decline dementia, sarcopenia, compromised immunity infectious disease. BackgroundUnderstanding disparities in the burden of cancer attributable to different risk factors is crucial inform and improve prevention control. In this report, we estimate site-specific population-attributable fractions (PAFs) for 23 potentially modifiable across all provinces China.MethodsIn comparative assessment study, used 2014 mortality data adults from 978 county-level surveillance points 31 mainland China. Risk-factor prevalence estimates were obtained representative surveys. We summary relative risks several recent large-scale pooled analyses or high-quality meta-analyses studies calculated PAFs using multiple formulae incorporating exposure stratified by age, sex province then combined create sex, site, factors.FindingsAbout 1 036 004 deaths (45·2% [95% CI 44·0–46·4]) China aged 20 years older evaluated factors. The PAF was higher men (51·2% 50·0–52·4]) than women (34·9% [33·6–36·2]), with leading being active smoking low fruit intake women. By province, both sexes ranged 35·2% Shanghai 52·9% Heilongjiang, while varied 40·9% 56·4% Guangdong among 26·9% 48·0% Heilongjiang highest provinces, whereas it (14 provinces), hepatitis B virus infection (seven (six excess bodyweight (three human papilloma (one province).InterpretationThe cancers vary substantially Regional adoption effective primary strategies has a vast potential reduce Smoking, poor diet, warrant particular policy attention as they contributed large proportion total burden.FundingNational Science Technology Basic Research Special Foundation

Aging is characterized by the functional decline of tissues and organs increased risk aging-associated disorders, which pose major societal challenges are a public health priority. Despite extensive human genetics studies, limited progress has been made linking with aging. There growing realization that altered assembly, structure dynamics gut microbiota actively participate in aging process. Age-related microbial dysbiosis involved reshaping immune responses during aging, manifest as immunosenescence (insufficiency) inflammaging (over-reaction) accompany many age-associated enteric extraenteric diseases. The can be regulated, suggesting potential target for interventions. This review summarizes recent findings on physiological succession across life-cycle, roles mechanisms healthy alterations diseases, microbiota-targeted anti-aging strategies.

Summary Given the rapid increase in prevalence of chronic diseases aging populations, this prospective study including 17 707 adults aged ≥45 years from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study was used to estimate associations between disease, multimorbidity, depression among middle-aged elderly China, explore mediating factors. Depressive symptoms were assessed using 10-item Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D-10) questionnaire. Twelve physical conditions, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, cancer, lung liver heart failure, stroke, kidney arthritis or rheumatism, asthma, digestive disease assessed. The rates multimorbidity (CES-D-10 ≥10) 43.23% 36.62%, respectively. Through multivariable logistic models generalized estimating equation (GEE) models, we found all 12 significantly associated with depression. Both mobility problems pain explained more than 30% association particularly high percentages stroke (51.56%) cancer (51.06%) (53.35%) pain. Limited activities daily living (ADL) 34.60% stroke-cancer relationship, while sleep 10.15% (stroke) 14.89% (chronic disease) association. Individuals are likely be depressed. Functional involving limitations ADL difficulties mediated much incident These could targeted interventions ameliorate incidence individuals conditions.

Abstract Background Disability in aged people became one of the major challenges China due to acceleration population aging. Nevertheless, there were limited methods appropriately discriminate degree combined basic activity daily living (BADL) and instrumental (IADL). The present study explored an empirical typology (ADL) its association with health status among elderly China. Methods Data throughout Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) was retrieved Latent profile analysis (LPA) conducted identify subgroups ADL for included subjects. Multinomial regression performed detect effect identified characteristics subgroups, restricted cubic spine drawn show changes relationship between age-specific disability BMI. Results overall participants ( n =8108) divided into three classes by LPA - ‘no BADL limitation-no IADL limitation’ (Class one, =6062, 75%), limitation- impairment’ two, =1526, 19%), ‘BADL impairment- three, =520, 6%). Compared Class oldest-old, without spouse, lacking exercise, short social activities, having experience falls, comorbidity diabetes, heart disease, stroke, decreased cognitive function, depression symptom highly associated two three. Additionally, malnutrition asthma BADL/IADL impairment three), while illiteracy only two). Furthermore, a statistically significant U-shape detected age vs. two) as well BMI one). 80–90 less likely evolve impairment, who underweight or obese may have higher risk impairment. Conclusion A novel functional assessment based on LPA, which could be classified distinct BADL/IADL. predictors particular IADL/BADL draw early attention onset enlighten targeted interventions address consequent problems people.
