Abstract Taxonomic data on Coreidae have been fragmented over time and need to be revised. Likewise, related the development of germ cells features male reproductive system, including sperm, will contribute understanding biological mechanisms reproduction systematics its representatives. Aiming provide these data, we describe morphology system spermatozoa Leptoglossus zonatus using light transmission electron microscopies, respectively. Each two testes is surrounded by a bright red‐pigmented sheath formed seven follicles arranged side side. The vasa deferentia are filled with individualized especially in their final portion, which dilated curved. After dilation, receive ducts accessory glands mesodermal origin. other unpaired gland ectodermal origin opens into ejaculatory duct. Both glandular types densely coiled lumens secreted material. Testicular contain cysts at different stages spermatogenesis, indicating continuous production gametes throughout adult life. Mature sperm measure around 310 μm long, nucleus 36 flagellum only an axoneme 9 + 2 microtubules symmetrical mitochondrial derivatives. Like Heteroptera, acrosome has single structure (without perforatorium), there no bodies flagella, derivatives connected axonemes, supporting synapomorphic condition characteristics for this suborder bedbugs. Research Highlights slender about length, long. Spermatogenesis occurs life equally testicular follicles. centriole adjunct L. does not give rise bodies. produces filamentous secretion, whereas sac, secretion globular.

The fine structure of the female reproductive organs diving beetle Scarodytes halensis has been described, with particular attention to complex organization spermatheca and spermathecal gland. These are fused in a single whose epithelium is involved quite different activity. secretory cells gland have large extracellular cistern secretions; duct-forming cells, by their efferent duct, transport secretions up apical cell region where they discharged into lumen. On contrary, spermatheca, filled sperm, simple epithelium, apparently not ultrastructure almost identical that described closely related species Stictonectes optatus. Sc. long duct connecting bursa copulatrix spermatheca-spermathecal complex. This thick outer layer muscle cells. Through contractions, sperm can be pushed forwarding two organs. A short fertilization allows reach common oviduct eggs will fertilized. genital systems S. optatus might strategy species.

The ultrastructural study on the female reproductive system of beetle M. brevicauda (Mordellidae) confirmed positive correlation between length sperm and size seminal receptacle (Spermatheca). spermatheca species is characterized by an apical bulb-like structure where spermathecal duct forms numerous folds filled with sperm. At this level many bacterial cells are present intermingled folds. Some organized in large structures, such as bacteriomes, while other single bacteriocytes. latter often found near basal lamina epithelium. In addition, some bacteria visible cytoplasm epithelial cells. Interestingly, have never been observed lumen. possible function discussed.

We investigated the male and female reproductive tracts of Gyretes sp. with light transmission electron microscopies. The has a pair testes single coiled follicle, followed by short efferent ducts, which have similar shape diameter to testes. Long ducts (epididymides) differential epithelium open in long vasa deferentia that lead accessory glands. Glycoprotein secretions from vas deferens constitute spermatostyle for spermatozoa aggregation. numerous ovarioles per ovary, fertilization duct, an gland, elongated vagina. Spermatozoa are stored as unaggregated cells duct. In Gyrinidae, glands show diverse shapes, sperm storage organs vary shape, size, type may play role interaction aggregates. Testes follicle opening features shared other Gyrinidae Adephaga. proposed adding this latter trait characterize suborder beetles. morphology both sexes contributes comparative analyses knowledge biology provide additional systematics.

Relatively few studies have focused on evolutionary losses of sexually selected male traits. We use light and electron microscopy to study the female reproductive anatomy Apotomus ground beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae), a lineage that we reconstruct as likely having lost sperm conjugation, putative trait. pay particular attention structure testes spermatheca. Both these organs share strikingly similar shape–consisting long blind canals arranged into several concentric overlapping rings measuring approximately 18 mm 19.5 in total length, respectively. The similarity structures suggests positive correlation between genital organs. Males are characterized by unifollicular with numerous germ cysts, which contain 64 cells each, record novel occurrence cyst “looping”, spermatogenic innovation previously only known from some fruit fly Tenebrionid beetle sperm. very (about 2.7 mm) include an extraordinarily helicoidal acrosome, short nucleus, flagellum. These findings confirm structural peculiarity sperm, testis, tract (FRT) species relative other beetles, could possibly be result shifts sexual selection.
