“Superfoods” is a marketing term used to describe nutrient-dense foods claimed have health benefits due their high concentrations of essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other bioactive compounds. Recently, the need for healthy diets has led increased demand these functional foods, which become popular among middle- high-income groups in developed regions earth. Superfoods can represent smart way improve diets, particularly relation diet-related issues. However, superfood production system, as well broader food must be reconsidered avoid overexploitation soil, workers, natural resources. This perspective explores sustainability “superfoods” by proposing new classification dividing them into “synthesizers” “accumulators” based on origin. The aim provide framework identifying promoting superfoods that align with environmental social goals, helping guide both consumers producers toward more responsible choices systems. Analyzing sources characteristics main compounds found reveals most come from plants or bacteria, rather than animal origins. Since animal-based one largest contributors greenhouse gas emissions agro-food sector major driver deforestation water use, it advisable focus plant organisms primary direct beneficial Nevertheless, great attention paid vegetable crops imply an soil induce degradation entire ecosystems.

Despite the growing availability of noninvasive and faster diagnostic modalities, biopsy remains an important tool in diagnosis management liver diseases. However, it is not uncommon that biopsies reveal normal or near histologic findings patients with abnormal biochemistries, elevated autoantibodies, clinical suggestive portal hypertension, systemic autoimmune inflammatory diseases, hepatomegaly, cirrhosis by imaging, other indications. These scenarios present significant challenges are rarely discussed detail literature textbooks. This article aims to provide a comprehensive review group selected rare focus on metabolic, storage inclusion disorders, may exhibit near-normal histology biopsy. By recognizing subtle features correlating history, laboratory results imaging findings, often possible narrow down differential diagnosis. In many cases, this integrative approach can yield definitive diagnosis, allowing for tailored treatment better patient outcomes.

Abstract Recent research highlights the significant impact of gut microbiota on health and disease. Thalassemia, a hereditary blood disorder, requires regular transfusions, leading to an accumulation iron in body. Such changes could potentially alter intestinal microbiota, thereby increasing susceptibility thalassemic patients infection. In this study, we analyzed fecal 70 non-transfusion-dependent (NTDT) β-thalassemia/HbE 30 healthy controls. Our findings indicate that chelation intervention had no detectable effect microbiome profile patients. However, cross-sectional analysis revealed bacterial diversity community structure were significantly less diverse distinct compared those subjects. Using reference frames, also able demonstrate taxa are known produce short chain fatty acids, from genera Alistipes , Coprococcus Oscillospira family Ruminococcaceae prevalent contrast, associated with unhealthy gut, including genus Clostridium families Fusobacteriaceae Enterobacteriaceae Peptostrptococcaceae more found be correlated higher levels ferritin. Collectively, these regarded as markers raised ferritin levels, therefore, awareness should exercised they interfere, albeit indirectly, treatment co-morbidities thalassemia.

Abstract Introduction HFE genetic variants, especially C282Y homozygosity (C282Y+/+), can increase systemic iron and cause hemochromatosis, though expression varies. Excess lead to liver disease/cancer, yet factors influencing beyond genotype remain unclear. We investigated genetic/environmental iron, including hemochromatosis diagnosis. Methods analysed 37,287 European ancestry UK Biobank participants (mean age 64.1, SD 7.6) with genotypes MRI-estimated concentrations (MRLIC). Linear regression assessed MRLIC associations environmental factors, adjusting for age, sex, covariates. Results Mean was highest in undiagnosed C282Y+/+ males females (2.56 2.31mg/g) vs. diagnosed (1.23 & 1.51mg/g, p=0.0001 0.0004). Other had nominal increases those without variants. Higher associated higher alcohol intake (β=0.11, 95%CI: 0.09–0.11, p=6.0×10 −128 ; >30 1–14 units/week), frequent red/processed meat consumption (β=0.08, 0.07–0.09, p=3.7×10 −54 ≥3 times/week none), high waist-height ratio (β=0.01, 0.006–0.02, p=6.4×10 −5 ) genetically predicted transferrin saturation (β=0.22, 0.19– 0.26, p=3.8×10 −46 ). Lower underweight BMI (β=−0.06, −0.09 – −0.03, p=1.1×10 −4 ), proton pump inhibitor use (β=−0.03, −0.04 p=3.5×10 −17 ≥4 cups/day of tea (β=−0.01, −0.02 −0.003, p=0.005 non-drinkers). Among individuals (n=91), lower (β=−0.99, −1.89 −0.08, p=0.03). Conclusion Undiagnosed excess diagnosed, likely due treatment. Genetic influence C282Y+/+. Tailored lifestyle advice could benefit at risk hemochromatosis.

Background Altitude illness has serious effects on individuals who are not adequately acclimatized to high-altitude areas and may even lead death. However, the individualized mechanisms of onset preventive measures fully elucidated at present, especially relationship between altitude elements, which requires further in-depth research. Methods Fresh serum samples were collected from underwent health examinations two hospitals in Xining Sanya November 2021 December 2021. The blood zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), calcium (Ca) concentrations, as well hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α) measured. This study conducted effective sample size estimation, repeated experiments, used GraphPad Prism 9.0 IBM SPSS version 19.0 software for comparative analysis differences expression elements HIF-1α among different ethnic groups, altitudes, concentration groups. Linear regression multiple linear employed explore relationships their correlation with HIF-1α. Results included a total 400 participants. results measurements indicated that consistency laboratory test was satisfactory. In terms differences, except Fe ( p = 0.767), did show significant variance low high regions, Zn, Ca, all exhibited notable these < 0.0001, 0.004, 0.0001). When grouping by concentrations HIF-1α, revealed variations distribution levels 0.05). outcomes demonstrated zinc, displayed substantial overall explanatory power across subgroups Finally, within population, Li group Sanya, Han model HIF-1αas dependent variable independent variables noteworthy Conclusion typical differ various altitudes distinctions be linked occurrence progression illness.
