Depression is a prevalent mental disorder that significantly diminishes quality of life and longevity, ranking as one the primary causes disability globally. Contemporary research has explored potential pathogenesis depression from various angles, encompassing genetics, neurotransmitter systems, neurotrophic factors, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, inflammation, intestinal flora, among other contributing factors. In addition, conventional chemical medications are plagued by delayed onset action, persistent adverse effects, restricted therapeutic efficacy. light these limitations, approach traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) gained increasing recognition for its superior effectiveness. Numerous pharmacological clinical studies have substantiated TCM’s capacity to mitigate depressive symptoms through diverse mechanisms. This article attempts summarize mechanisms involved in describe characteristics herbal medicines (including compounded formulas active ingredients) treatment depression. It further evaluates their effectiveness correlating with multifaceted depression, thereby furnishing reference future endeavors.

Piper nigrum L. (PN), which contains various bioactive compounds, is a plant with homologous medicine and food. Sleep deprivation (SD) profoundly impacts cognitive function emotional health. However, the mechanisms by PN improves depressive mood induced SD remain unclear. In our study, network pharmacology molecular docking techniques were used to predict potential regulates SD. this 220 compounds identified in PN, 10 core targets screened through pharmacology. Animal experiments showed that ameliorated deficits sleep-deprived mice, upregulated serum activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT), downregulated malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. The ELISA assay significantly decreased tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) Histopathological staining brain tissue demonstrated mitigates SD-induced hippocampal damage, enables hippocampus produce more neurotransmitters, including 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), dopamine (DA), reduces glutamate (Glu) RT-qPCR WB analyses further indicated could exert anti-SD effects inhibiting over-activation JAK1/STAT3 signalling pathway. PC12 cell model, reduce inflammation prevent apoptosis, exerting neuroprotective effects. summary, has positive on alleviating symptoms dysfunction

Jiawei Kongsheng Zhenzhong Pill(JKZP) is based on Pill contained in the Tang Dynasty's "Thousand Golden Prescriptions," which exhibited good anti-ischemic and antidepressant effects previous study. However, its specific post-stroke depression (PSD) mechanism are not clear. This study aimed to investigate of JKZP treatment PSD related mechanisms. The decoction was first analyzed for medicinal chemical composition screened representative components JKZP. Middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) method combined with solitary rearing chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) used establish a rat model PSD, observe behavior synaptic plasticity rats, by detecting mRNA level, protein expression activity Netrin-1/DCC signaling pathway-related proteins. results showed that loganin, β-asarone other pharmaceutical ingredients, have been reported protect against ischemic injury effects. significantly improved depression-like rats damage pyramidal neurons medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) rats. Moreover, increased density dendritic spines mPFC gap width thickness post-synaptic density, number vesicles. Real-Time quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR), Western blotting, pull-down assays revealed netrin-1, deleted colorectal cancer (DCC), focal adhesion kinase (FAK) expression, elevated p-FAK/FAK ratio, decreased myosin II Ras homolog gene family member A (RhoA-GTP) Taken together, can affect structural remodeling improve depressive manifestations neuronal regulating molecules netrin-1/DCC pathway.

Cryptotanshinone, bioactive compound, has shown promise in addressing reproductive abnormalities. However, its therapeutic potential for the management of not been sufficiently investigated. Purpose The aim this study to systematically evaluate efficacy cryptotanshinone treatment PCOS. Methods A comprehensive systematic search was performed across multiple databases, CNKI, Wanfang Data, VIP, PubMed, Web Science, covering studies from their inception through December 2024. methodological quality included assessed using SYRCLE’s Risk Bias tool. Data synthesis statistical analysis were conducted RevMan 5.3 Stata 17 software. Results Seven met inclusion criteria meta-analysis. Treatment with significantly improved several PCOS-related parameters animal models, as compared control group. Notable improvements reductions body weight ( P < 0.00001), ovarian = 0.005), ovaries quotiety 0.0006). Additionally, led significant modulation serum levels f T 0.001), A2 0.02), LH 0.0002), LH/FSH ratio estradiol SHBG 0.0003). underlying mechanism may involve downregulation CYP17 AR mRNA protein expression. Conclusion This meta-analysis provides robust evidence supporting Cryptotanshinone appears restore both functions, regulation weight, morphology, hormone levels, gene holds agent
