The extensive use of dyes in numerous industries results massive dye discharge the wastewater, which is a major cause water pollution. Globally, consumption near seven hundred thousand tons across different sectors, around 10–15% goes into wastewater. Among kinds, anionic make up main proportion, having 32–90% share Different plant-derived wastes, are sustainable given their natural abundance, effectiveness, and low cost, frequently proposed for separation. However, these adsorbents inherently more suitable cationic than dyes. In recent years, modification wastes has been progressively considered to suit them removal. These modifications involve mechanical, thermal, or chemical treatments, combinations. attempts propose two-way benefits, as one abundant waste being used cure another severe problem, eventually both could be diminished. This review key focus on evaluation modifications, particularly adsorption. Overall, mechanism adsorption suitability current methods discussed, future potential explored.

In this work, activated carbon (referred to as MCAC) was produced by microwave radiation assisted ZnCl2 activation using Malaysian coal (MC) a precursor. The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller findings indicate that the MCAC has relatively large surface area (798.18 m2/g) and mesoporous structure (average pore diameter of 3.67 nm). removal Methylene Violet (MV 2B) cationic dye model, employed investigate adsorption properties MCAC. A numerical desirability function in Box–Behnken design (BBD) optimize independent crucial variables follows: A: dose (0.02–0.1 g); B: pH (4–10); C: time (5–25 min). results equilibrium dynamic showed MV 2B followed Freundlich pseudo-second order models, respectively. maximum amount could adsorb (qmax) 134.1 mg/g. Electrostatic interactions, π-π stacking, H-bonding, diffusion contribute onto surface. This study demonstrates potential utilize MC low-cost precursor for efficient synthesis MAC its utility pollutants.

Biochar is considered an environmentally friendly and cost-effective option for removing antibiotics from aqueous solutions. In this study, biochar derived rice straw (RBC) was sequentially modified by KMnO4 NaOH (Mn/Na-RBC) to achieve ciprofloxacin (CIP) removal. To explore the adsorption mechanisms between Mn/Na-RBC CIP, characterization analyses, isotherms, thermodynamics, kinetics were investigated. The results revealed that significantly increased specific surface area (154.12 m2·g–1), carbonization, number of oxygen-containing functional groups compared with pristine biochar, thereby substantially enhancing CIP capacity. Through fitting model, it found highest capacity 32.25 mg·g–1 under acidic conditions (pH=3), pseudo-second-order Freundlich model fit behavior well. main process pore filling, electrostatic interaction, H-bonding, π–π conjugation, n–π interaction complexation. Moreover, still exhibited a remarkable selectively adsorb even in presence high ionic strengths. Thus, promising adsorbent emerging contaminants aquatic environments.
