Long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) have been widely applied due to their nutraceutical and healthcare benefits. With the rising rates of chronic diseases, there is a growing consumer interest demand for sustainable dietary sources n-3 PUFAs. Currently, microalgae emerged as source PUFAs which are rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) eicosapentaenoic (EPA), regarded promising alternatives conventional (seafood) that cannot meet demands natural food supplements. This review provides comprehensive overview recent advancements strategies such genetic engineering, mutagenesis, improving photosynthetic efficiency, nutritional or environmental factors, cultivation approaches improve DHA EPA production efficiency cells. Additionally, it explains application EPA-rich animal feed, human nutrition- snacks, supplements avoid malnutrition non-communicable diseases.

Metabolites, Journal Year: 2025, Volume and Issue: 15(4), P. 279 - 279

Published: April 17, 2025

Background/Objectives: Metabolite risk score (MRS), which considers the collective effects of metabolites closely reflecting a phenotype, is new approach for disease assessment, moving away from focusing solely on individual biomarkers. This study aimed to investigate metabolite panel dyslipidemia and verify diagnostic efficacy MRS dyslipidemia. Methods: Key identification establishment were conducted in discovery set, validation was performed replication with 50 healthy individuals patients each set. The constructed using key metabolites, identified via UPLC-MS/MS analysis, employing weighted based linear regression analysis. Results: N-acetylisoputreanine-γ-lactam eicosapentaenoic acid as utilized establishing MRS. In addition model, conventional model lipid profiles, well combined (MRS + profiles), also established. diagnosed 85.4% accuracy. When accuracy improved 91.8%. demonstrated power 76.1% accuracy, while achieved 86.0% assessment. Conclusions: alone indicated sufficient assessment real-world setting, despite slight reduction ability when validated At this stage, therefore, serves an auxiliary tool diagnosis. first attempt apply may offer foundational concept disease.

Abstract The increasing applications for eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and the potential shortfall in supply due to sustainability contamination issues related with its conventional sources (i.e., fish oils; seafood) led an extensive search alternative sustainable sources, as well production processes. present mini-review covers all steps involved of EPA from microorganisms, a deeper focus on microalgae. From systems downstream processing, most important achievements within each area are briefly highlighted. Comparative tables methodologies also provided, additional references recent reviews, so that readers may deepen their knowledge different addressed. Key points • Microorganisms more than fish. Due costly separation DHA, species produce only preferable. can be optimised using non-genetic genetic tailoring engineering.
