In this work, a novel strategy for food waste valorization was evaluated from an environmental life-cycle perspective. A system based on acid-assisted hydrothermal carbonization of combined with the exploitation hydrochar by combustion and process water through nutrient recovery stage subsequent anaerobic digestion, assessed compared stand-alone digestion as reference system. This combination processes aims to recover both nutrients in struvite precipitation energy biogas combustion. Both systems were modeled Aspen Plus® identify quantify their most relevant input output flows subsequently evaluate performance life cycle assessment methodology. The found generally involve more favorable than configuration, which would be closely linked substitution fossil fuels. addition, impacts associated soil application produced integrated also reduced use digestate generated process. Following these results evolving regulatory framework biomass management, mainly field recovery, treatment plus is concluded promising circular economy concept valorization.

This review discusses the current knowledge of interfacial and bulk interactions biopolymeric microgels in relation to well-established properties synthetic for applications as viscosity modifiers Pickering stabilisers. We present a timeline showing key milestones designing their bulk/ performance. Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (pNIPAM) have remained protagonist microgel domain whilst proteins or polysaccharides been primarily used fabricate microgels. Bulk dispersions are dominated by volume fraction (ϕ) particles, but ϕ is difficult pinpoint, addressed many theoretical models. The United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP’s) Food Waste Index Report 2021 highlights a global annual food waste of 1 billion tons. UNEP plays crucial role in achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12.3, which aims to halve per capita (FW) at the retail and consumer levels reduce losses along production supply chains globally by 2030. On other hand, agricultural sector faces challenge increasing productivity feed world’s growing population while reducing environmental impact on ecosystems human health. In this context, conversion agri-food (AFW) into biocides, bio-based fertilizers (BBFs) biostimulants could represent successful approach tackle all these issues. This review shows latest findings different sources AFW application their bioactive compounds agriculture. Increasing crop yields improving plant physiology through utilization AFW-derived value products aligns with circular economy approach, bolstering people’s confidence managing for improved production.
