Sargassum horneri (S. horneri) is a brown seaweed that contains fucose-rich sulfated polysaccharide called fucoidan and known to possess beneficial bioactivities, such as anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antioxidative, antitumoral effects. This study aimed determine the anti-inflammatory effects of AB_SH (hydrothermal extracts from S. its bioactive compound (fucoidan) against tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α)-induced inflammation in human retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells. did not exhibit any cytotoxicity, it decreased mRNA expression interleukin (IL)-6 IL-8 production cytokines IL-6 TNF-α. It also suppressed levels phosphorylated nuclear kappa B (NF-κB) mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), including c-Jun amino-terminal (JNK), p38 (p38), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) proteins, suggesting inhibits activation NF-kB/MAPK signaling pathway. Since was identified composition analysis AB_SH, additionally shown be required for TNF-α-stimulated RPE In line with results, reduced IL-6, IL-1ß, TNF-α, through downregulation pathway dose-dependent manner. Collectively, ability hydrothermal reduce indicates may good functional ingredient managing ocular disorders.

Nasal irrigation is thought to decrease the viral load present in nasal cavity. Our aim was assess effect of a hypertonic seawater solution [with algal and herbal natural ingredients (Sinomarin®)] on nasopharynx patients hospitalized with severe COVID-19 pneumonia. We conducted prospective, randomized, controlled trial from June 2022 December 2022. allocated 56 pneumonia into two groups (28 each group)—the group [nasal irrigations (Sinomarin®) every 4 h for 16 per day, consecutive days] control (no irrigations). A second nasopharyngeal swab collected 48 after baseline (8 last wash group) estimate SARS-CoV-2 as determined by cycle threshold (Ct) values. In group, mean Ct values significantly increased days initial measurement [ΔCt 48−0 = 3.86 ± 3.03 cycles, p < 0.001 (95%CI: 2.69 5.04)]. No significant differences were observed −0.14 4.29, 0.866 −1.80 −1.52)]. At follow-up, 17 had negative test results compared only 9 (p 0.03). containing decreased detection time
