Nowadays, the widespread diffusion of infections caused by opportunistic fungi represents a demanding threat for global health security. This phenomenon has also worsened emergence contagious events in hospitalisation environments and fact that many have developed harsh serious resistance mechanisms to traditional antimycotic drugs. Hence, design novel antifungal agents is key factor counteract mycotic resistance. Within this context, nanomaterials are gaining increasing attention thanks their biocidal character. Among these, carbon dots (CDs) represent class zero-dimensional, photoluminescent quasi-spherical nanoparticles which, great tuneable features, found applications catalysis, sensing biomedicine. Nevertheless, only few works define recapitulate properties. Therefore, we aim give an overview about recent advances synthesis CDs active against infective fungi. We described general features fungal cells, highlighting some most common mechanisms. Then, evaluated effects CDs, antimicrobial drugs-loaded CDs-incorporated packaging systems on different analysed use as fluorescent nano-trackers bioimaging, showing, all effects, promising application agents.

Abstract In this study, we utilized processed edible commercial wheat and oat flours to synthesize highly fluorescent carbon dots using green hydrothermal synthesis. The as‐synthesized quantum (CQDs) were characterized UV‐vis spectrophotometry, photoluminescence high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. synthesized wheat‐CQDs (W‐CQDs) oat‐CQDs (O‐CQDs) had monodispersed spherical shapes with average sizes of 3–8 5–10 nm, respectively, exhibited strong fluorescence intensity excitation‐dependent photoluminescence. W‐CQDs O‐CQDs dispersed in aqueous solutions bright blue fluorescence, under UV light (λ ex =380 370 nm). Both CQDs contained abundant functional groups, including amino, hydroxyl, carboxyl which may play a major role biological applications. showed good free‐radical scavenging capacity the 2,2‐diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) H 2 O assays. anti‐inflammatory activities more effective than that standard, EC 50 values 1.8 1.3 mg/mL, protein denaturation assay. Additionally, low cytotoxicity toward NIH3T3 fibroblast human HeLa cervical cancer cells when treated 5‐mg/mL concentration. Therefore, green‐synthesized are easily available, less cytotoxic, applicable therapeutic cell nanocarrier purposes.
