As the demand for sustainable and innovative solutions in food packaging continues to grow, this study endeavors introduce a comprehensive exploration of novel active materials. Specifically, we focus on characterizing polylactide-poly(ethylene glycol) (PLA/PEG) films filled with olive leaf extract (OLE; Olea europaea) obtained via solvent evaporation. Examined properties include surface structure, thermal degradation mechanical attributes, as well antibacterial activity. The results indicated significant impact incorporation OLE into polymeric matrix, increasing hydrophobicity, decreasing free energy, enhancing roughness, albeit slight reductions properties. Notably, these modified materials exhibited bacteriostatic, bactericidal anti-adhesive activity against both Staphylococcus aureus Escherichia coli. Consequently, PLA/PEG/OLE demonstrated considerable potential advanced packaging, facilitating interactions between products their environment. This capability ensures preservation extension shelf life, safeguards microbial contamination, maintains overall quality, safety, integrity packaged food. These findings suggest pathways developing more effective films.
