Aquatic environmental pollution is a rather worrying and increasingly topical problem that requires the development promotion of innovative ecofriendly technologies. Pollutants in water include many common substances can reach aquatic ecosystems through several pathways including wastewater, atmosphere, ship discharges, other sources. Most these toxic compounds are internalized by organisms, leading to bioaccumulation tissues reaching any level food chain biomagnification process. These mechanisms develop into adverse effects on physiology organisms biochemical processes natural ecosystems, thus affecting animals, environments, indirectly, human health. Innovative technologies tackle marine bioremediation: suitable, biological, ecological approach enhances ability micro-organisms transform waste forms be used organisms. In this context, appear essential for detoxification systems due their metabolic activity. This review provides careful analysis characteristics main pollutants affect with focus environments. It also offers clear guidance biological strategies employed prevent, limit, remediate anthropogenic influences

A large variety of pharmaceutical compounds have recently been detected in wastewater and natural water systems. This review highlighted the significance removing compounds, which are considered indispensable emerging contaminants, from Various advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), including UV-H2O2, Fenton photo-Fenton, ozone-based processes, photocatalysis, physical such as sonolysis, microwave, electron beam irradiation, regarded most viable methods to eliminate different categories discussed. All these AOPs exhibit great promising techniques, catalytic degradation process advantages, disadvantages each technique were deliberated. Heterogeneous photocatalysis employing metal oxides, particularly anatase TiO2 nanoparticles catalysts activated by UV light was reviewed terms electron–hole separation, migration charge carriers catalyst surfaces, redox potential carriers. brief overview also emphasized that TiO2-based nanomaterials photocatalysts, a combination other enhanced photocatalytic efficiency. Finally, challenges applying environmental remediation treatments degrade mass spectroscopic analysis biological activity test by-products contaminants resulting summarized.

Due to their uncontrolled use, plastics has become an environmental concern, not only for varying dimension but also the potential release of substances such as phthalates (PAEs) and non-phthalates (NPPs) into water. Phthalates are most common plasticizers non-phthalate di (2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate (DEHT) have been lately found in marine environment. Mytilus galloprovincialis is a well-known bioindicator aquatic environments due its ability accumulate wide variety xenobiotics, including plasticizers. Hence, aim this study was evaluate bioaccumulation effects NPP DEHT on M. galloprovincialis. To purpose, following exposure at 1 mg/l (DEHT1) 100 (DEHT100), accumulation tissues total lipids fatty acid (FA) composition, protein content, cell viability, recover volume changes biomarkers oxidative stress were assessed. Mussels able bioaccumulate tissues, with statistically significant increase compared control organisms. Differences FA composition observed after exposure, since C16:0, C18:0, C20:5ω-3 C22:6ω-3 significantly decreased from exposed groups. As result, SFA, MUFA PUFA affected DEHT-exposed Also, varied DEHT100-group. Considering physiological responses, both groups lost return original digestive gland (DG) cells. On other hand, gills DG by exposure. Overall, showed first time that differentially affect mussels, lipid metabolism, well cellular parameters.

Introduction: Bivalve molluscs like Mytilus galloprovincialis are valuable bioindicators due to their filter-feeding lifestyle, wide distribution, and ability concentrate xenobiotics. Studying the effects of pharmaceuticals on these is crucial given presence in surface waters. This study investigated response M. chlorpromazine (Cpz), an antipsychotic with antiviral activity against influenza, HIV, coronaviruses human cells. Methods: In this study, we examined 14-day impact (Cpz) model species at two concentrations (Cpz 1: 12 ng L-1 or 37 pM; Cpz 2: µg nM). To ensure controlled exposure, a stock solution was prepared introduced into tanks match intended concentrations. Seawater solutions were refreshed every 48 h. The primary focus centered evaluating cell viability, volume regulation, oxidative stress indicators. Results: Although as assessed by decreasing regulatory Regulation decrease, did not show statistically significant changes during experiment, digestive other hand, showed decrease (p < 0.01) 2 group, suggesting general health survival Biochemically, both 1 2, superoxide dismutase increased, while catalase (CAT) decreased, causing elevated lipid peroxidation thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances protein carbonyls, particularly group. level reduced glutathione (GSH) increased exposures, whereas GSSG only Consequently, GSH/GSSG ratio group only. Discussion: A comparison magnitudes anti- pro-oxidative manifestations indicated shift exposures. These findings that induces non-specific symptoms biochemical cellular disturbances even low picomolar concentration.

Mancozeb and metalaxyl are fungicidal agents frequently used in combination to control fungi crops that may affect non-target organisms when entering ecosystems. This study aims evaluate the environmental effects of (MAN) Metalaxyl (MET), alone combination, on zebrafish (Danio rerio) as an experimental model. The oxidative stress biomarkers transcription genes involved detoxification were assessed after co-exposure MAN (0, 5.5, 11 μg L-1) MET 6.5, 13 mg for 21 days. Exposure induced a significant increase expression related mechanisms (Ces2, Cyp1a, Mt2). Although Mt1 gene increased fish exposed L-1 combined with MET, was down-regulated significantly other groups (p < 0.05). exposure both fungicides showed synergistic levels manifested mainly at highest concentration. 0.05) alkaline phosphatase (ALP) transaminases (AST ALT), catalase activities, total antioxidant capacity, malondialdehyde (MDA) contents hepatocytes detected, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) hepatic glycogen content decreased Overall, these results emphasize can synergistically (except Mt2) biochemical indicators zebrafish.

Even though the toxic effects of antibiotics and heavy metals have been extensively studied in last decades, their combined adverse impact on aquatic organisms is poorly understood. Therefore, objective this study was to assess acute a ciprofloxacin (Cipro) lead (Pb) mixture 3D swimming behavior, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, lipid peroxidation level (MDA—malondialdehyde), activity some oxidative stress markers (SOD—superoxide dismutase GPx—glutathione peroxidase), essential elements content (Cu—copper, Zn—zinc, Fe—iron, Ca—calcium, Mg—magnesium, Na—sodium K—potassium) body zebrafish (Danio rerio). For purpose, were exposed environmentally relevant concentrations Cipro, Pb, for 96 h. The results revealed that exposure Pb alone with Cipro impaired exploratory behavior by decreasing elevating freezing duration. Moreover, significant deficiencies Ca, K, Mg, Na contents, as well an excess Zn level, observed fish tissues after binary mixture. Likewise, treatment inhibited AChE increased GPx MDA level. produced more damage all endpoints, while had no effect. findings highlight simultaneous presence environment can pose threat health living organisms.
