Abstract Recently, hydrogen‐bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) have emerged as a rapidly advancing class of porous materials with significant potential for applications in the absorption and detection various chemicals. Here, unique ability amide groups to form endless‐stacking H‐bonds is implemented design HOFs. Starting from benzene‐1,3,5‐tricarboxamide amide‐containing tribenzocyclynes foundational building blocks, diverse range HOFs featuring 1D, 2D, or 3D has been synthesized. Among those, all three HOFs, HOF_B‐Hex, HOF_T‐Pr HOF_T‐Hex exhibited permanent porosity, thereby demonstrating effectiveness amide‐based strategy. Notably, stands out 42% pore volume an impressive iodine capture efficiency 6.4 g −1 . The capacity influenced not only by but also presence accessible π‐electrons within material (i.e., electrons engaged π–π stacking interaction. Furthermore, some these fluorescent responses positioning them highly promising both sensing iodine.

HOFs have now attracted increasing attention in various fields, owing to their valued features such as mild synthetic condition, convenient purification/recovery processes, high processibility and diverse functionality. Great potentials emerged for the field adsorption separation, especially purification light hydrocarbons crucial petrochemical industry. Their practical applications, however, is limited it rather difficult maintain architectures only through bonds after removing lattice solvent molecules. Several strategies hence been developed solve issue HOF structure fragility, including introduction stronger/different forms intermolecular interactions, adoption monomers rigid backbones, integration appropriate structural interpenetrations, formation cross-linked structures, etc. In this review, common constructing important role each method enhancing stability briefly introduced.
