ABSTRACT Coatings have attracted widespread attention in the field of corrosion protection metals because their resistance and convenient techniques. Unfortunately, till now, traditional coatings shortcomings vulnerability passive protection, hence functional progressively replace them. Endowing with additional functions not only transform them into active mechanisms but also significantly improve life cycle coatings. However, there is limited success combining multiple coatings, which poses considerable obstacles to further advancement application researches. In this paper, we summarize research progress self‐warning self‐repairing metal as much possible from perspective material selection. Meanwhile, current substituting dual‐functional for single‐functional highlighted. We aim provide more options strategic guidance design fabrication on surfaces explore possibilities these designs practical applications. Last least, remaining challenges future growth regarding are outlined at end. It hope that such an elaborately organized review will benefit readers interested foster future.

The development of environmentally friendly WPUs with sustainable biobased feedstock, repairability, recyclability, and multifunctionality is highly attractive desirable. Herein, a vanillin-based polyol (VP) containing dynamic Schiff base bonds was synthesized via one-step reaction. rigid VP combined flexible castor oil, acting as polyols, to produce waterborne polyurethanes (BWPU). obtained BWPU material simultaneously possessed tunable mechanical properties (tensile strength up 11.49 MPa, elongation at break reached 169.04%), high thermal stability (T5 > 240 °C), self-healing (20 min 150 remolding (3 h chemical degradation (1 mol/L HCl solution), demonstrating excellent in-service performance an closed-loop recycling feature. Interestingly, the exhibited obvious fluorescent properties, which can be used ink for information security. Furthermore, by incorporating conductive Ag nanowires, potential application wearable sensors explored, prepared AgNW/BWPU pressure sensitive sensing ability quick responsiveness (100 ms), monitor both subtle movements large human movements. This work provides strategy achieving repairable recyclable fluorescence properties.

Conventional polymer damping materials are extensively utilized to mitigate vibration and noise in various fields, yet suffer from the drawback of a narrow effective temperature range. Herein, we innovatively synthesized an asymmetrically structured chain extender (AIS) with double disulfide bonds that provided polyurethane elastomer (PUE) ultra-high energy dissipation over wide range, which was unattainable by conventional extenders. This achieved enhancing bond exchange rate dynamic PUE. Specifically, asymmetric structure AIS strategically designed disrupt regularity hard segments PUE, enabling break reorganize efficiently, thus depleting mechanical energy. The results demonstrated range (Tan δ > 0.3) PUE cured can reach 130 °C (−15 °C–115 °C), is 210 % higher than matrix, stable plateau observed region room high temperature. Moreover, introduction significantly enhanced properties study encourages further investigation application field damping.
