Since the mid-20th century, quantity of microplastics (MPs) has increased significantly, becoming a persistent environmental pollutant widely distributed in global water bodies, soils, and atmosphere. While plastic materials have brought significant convenience to daily life, MPs resulting from their degradation pose increasing threats ecosystems human health. This comprehensive review examines sources, migration pathways, ecological impacts MPs, critically evaluates current separation techniques physical, chemical, biological perspectives. In particular, numerical simulations hydrocyclone technique reveal its unique flow characteristics, including turbulent velocity gradients axial pressure differences, with efficiency up 93%. offers advantages such as high efficiency, low energy consumption, friendliness. response growing microplastic pollution issue, this emphasizes that development future should prioritize sustainability, compatibility. Continued research field will provide theoretical support for optimizing control technologies contribute achieving protection sustainable goals.

Water scarcity has driven the use of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluents as reclaimed water, highlighting need to overcome challenges such presence emerging contaminants, particularly microplastics (MPs), which WWTPs are unable effectively remove. Membrane-based processes, microfiltration, have demonstrated high efficiency in removal suspended solids, and their application for MP is currently under investigation. This study assesses influence microfiltration membrane spacer size (1 mil 80 mil) geometry—diamond corrugated—on recovery performance, using synthetic wastewaters with varying MPs concentrations. The results indicate superior performance large corrugated small diamond-shaped membranes, both exhibited highest comparable permeate flux, no retention within element. All membranes achieved an 80% influent safe water exceeding 99%, 100% rejection fragments up 98% fibres.

Hydrocyclones utilize centrifugal sedimentation to separate dispersed phases from a continuous liquid phase, offering advantages such as the absence of moving parts, ease operation, and low maintenance costs. They are widely used in mineral, petrochemical, biotechnological industries, with their performance being significantly influenced by geometric operational variables. This review examines impact key (e.g. inlet, cone, vortex finder, overflow, outflow, cylinder) particle size, solid concentration, feed flow rate, pressure drop) parameters on hydrocyclone performance. Recent innovations, new developments, perspectives address specific industrial demands also discussed.

Cyclone separators are commonly employed in the mining, metallurgy and chemical industries due to their simple structure, easy maintenance high recovery efficiency. However, with wide application of cyclone separators, many problems have become exposed practical operation, restricting development. Among these, wall erosion is becoming a significant problem. In this study, resolve problem severe on walls, Eulerian–Lagrangian framework was investigate separator draft plate at inlet evaluate effect angles 0°, 45° 90° degree stabilization flow fields. Moreover, after verifying reliability numerical model via data from experiments, characteristics gas–solid were analyzed effects new structure wear investigated. The results demonstrated that unfavorable phenomena such as secondary generated during operation could be mitigated by plate. When angle 90°, lightest range influence smallest. 45°, comprehensive performance best, there better balance between energy loss erosion. Therefore, presence has impact interaction phases separator.
