Addictive smartphone use is one of the most concerning behaviors among adolescents. The present study investigated indirect effects self-esteem and boredom proneness moderating role need to belong on link between loneliness addictive (ASU). Our sample included 357 adolescents aged 12 19 ( M age = 15.56, SD 1.01, 57.42% males) from ten public schools in Romania. Introduction The literature highlighted that problematic internet use can have detrimental consequences on individuals’ well-being. Social media addiction, escapism and coping skills are closely related to use. However, no study has currently examined the relationship between social use, skills. Method This multicenter cross-sectional designed evaluated relationships escapism, in 508 adolescents (319 female) aged 14-18 years. In order collect data, sociodemographic data form, Internet Addiction Scale, Media Escapism Scale Kidcope Adolescent Version been used. First, who scored ≥50 Test were classified as group; <50 control group. Then, evaluated. Results results showed was associated with duration of impairment media-related functionality, preferring virtual life, pleasure, avoidant negative strategies. Purpose In the 21st century, excessive use of hedonic information systems (HIS) has become commonplace, making HIS reduction a more viable option for many users than complete discontinuation. Even so, there is no systematic revision on this matter. This literature review aims to examine previous studies reduction, identify their limitations and point out future research directions. Design/methodology/approach We adhered preferred reporting items reviews meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, ultimately analyzing 52 papers published between 2010 2024, with majority disseminated after 2021. Problematic online behaviours are a concern among university students. Although previous research has identified that psychological distress, cognitive distortions, conscientiousness and neuroticism traits, motor impulsivity, emotion regulation strategies have significant direct effect on generalised problematic Internet use (GPIU), social media (PSMU), gaming (POG), it is still necessary to determine the extent which these factors, taken together, associated with each of behaviours.
