The study was aimed at comparing the effect of oil, diesel fuel, and motor oil on capillary moisture capacity hygroscopic content gray forest soil, as well assessing changes in these characteristics oil-contaminated soils following their washing with polysorbate 80. Water a solution (with detergent concentrations 1, 5, 10 g/L) were added to soil be continuously mixed for 1 h 20 °С using shaker (60 rpm). analyzed agrophysical are shown decrease when contaminated 50, 150, 300 mL/kg. is more pronounced than those fuel similar concentrations, while is, conversely, less pronounced. 80 partially restored characteristics; however, they remained lower original samples. effectiveness also confirmed by reduction phytotoxicity samples solutions. At level contamination up 150 mL/kg, solutions containing 5 g/L found effective, whereas it recommended increase concentration g/L. weight ratio solution, water 1:1:4. Thus, prospects mitigate negative impact demonstrated.

In the sub-Saharan region of Africa, access to safe drinking water remains limited in many countries. This study provides an overview quality surface and groundwater rural peri-urban areas Madagascar, Uganda, Rwanda. Selected physico-chemical parameters, inorganic species (including ions), organic pollution indicators, such as total carbon, non-ionic surfactants, cationic anionic sum phenolic compounds formaldehyde, were analysed. Principal component analysis was applied assess variability identify regional dependencies. The ion composition majority studied samples meets WHO EU requirements for intended human consumption poses no health risk. However, individual non-cancer-causing index nitrates values Water Quality Index show a possible threat ingesting water. presence surfactants (0.1–0.65 mgL−1), (0.025–1.76 mgL−1) formaldehyde (0.04–0.32 may also pose risk human, animal, aquatic life. Additionally, in-situ measurements E. coli Total Coliforms conducted during last field campaign Madagascar (2022) revealed that all sources ranged from intermediate unsafe. result calls urgent need enhance WASH (water, sanitation, hygiene) services areas. both chemical microbiological pollutants shows local authorities develop implement catchment management plan ensure protection resources potential pollution, raise community awareness about impact activity on resources.

Abstract Surfactant‐like contaminants (SLCs) with distinctive amphiphilic structures have become a global concern in wastewater due to their toxicity and persistency. Despite extensive efforts, achieving efficient selective SLCs removal remains challenging because of wide range molecular weights complex functional group compositions. Superhydrophobic nanoparticles can potentially tackle this challenge by targeting the long oleophilic chains SLCs. However, conventional contact angle measurements hinder hydrophobicity characterization corresponding selectivity research powder morphology nanoparticles. Herein, authors offered information regarding distribution water probes surfaces proposed quantitative approach based on low‐field nuclear magnetic resonance. Through synthesizing superhydrophobic hydrophilic polydopamine nanospheres similar morphologies, adsorption potential for is systematically demonstrated. As revealed interaction mechanisms, surface increased its affinity enhancing hydrophobic interactions. modification achieved ten times capacity sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate, an exemplified surfactant, compared pristine By regulated self‐polymerization, are coated onto 3D sponge enable from highly polluted leachate matrices long‐term stability reusability.
