Abstract Efficient removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) as a well-known highly toxic heavy metal is extremely necessary for people’s health and environmental safety. Biochar from waste biomass has attracted widespread attention in pollutant due to abundant pores, high surface area low-cost, especially the presence persistent free radical (PFRs). Here, pomelo peel was utilized synthesize activated biochar with interconnected porous frameworks (APC). The obtained APC an exponentially specific 997.46 m 2 ·g −1 compared pristine (PPC) (8.78 ) distinctive three-dimensional (3D) honeycomb-structured framework pores. Meanwhile, through such green synthesis introduction no other substances besides KOH, enriched oxygen-containing functional groups C=O, C-H O–H, which can firmly grasp Cr(VI) ions convert them into low Cr(III) ions. exhibits excellent adsorption photocatalytic Cr(VI). capacity reaches maximum 307.3 mg·g PPC (194.2 ), obeys pseudo-second-order kinetics spontaneous endothermic process mainly controlled by intraparticle diffusion. Subsequently, be completely reduced under illumination existence PFRs. Compared PPC, strong light absorption, band gap, more reactive oxygen species (ROS) rapid charge carrier transfer, leading activity. Based on trapping experiments quantitative analysis species, mechanism over proposed. This work affords effective approach construct honeycomb-like synergistic adsorptive Cr(VI), hierarchical PFRs are particularly beneficial enhancement removal, exhibiting potential practical application wastewater treatment. In the present study, deoiled hemp stem-twigs and roots activated carbon were used to remove chromium paracetamol. The hemp-based materials characterized, surface area of samples increased more than 55-fold compared untreated materials. pore volume also increased, which can be attributed degradation volatiles during carbonization acid treatment. Contact time experiments showed that uptake rate for hexavalent was fast in initial phase equilibrium reached about 30 min from roots, while it took 40 roots. trends paracetamol show slow chromium. Equilibrium 120 all pH solution 2 optimal chromium, 6 adsorption data enthalpy sorption processes endothermic predominantly physisorptive. values Gibbs free energy negative, indicating spontaneous feasible.
