Abstract Microplastics can promote microbial colonisation and biofilm growth, thus being referred to as “plastispheres”. The global plastic pollution surge is likely adversely impact ecology human health by providing a novel habitat for communities. Even though microplastics in marine environments have been the subject of in-depth research, plastispheres recently received attention. Thus, current study investigates prevalence distribution along Maharashtra coast India, considering their plausible implications health. were isolated from sediment water samples obtained 10 sampling sites. Subsequently, these microplastic particles subjected ATR-FTIR scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses ascertain chemical composition, surface topography, presence attached biofilms. predominant polymers composing polypropylene (42.8%), polyethylene (28.6%), polystyrene (14.3%), polyvinyl chloride (14.3%). SEM analysis revealed topographical structures degradation effects, facilitating attachment on surface. About 50% tested positive biofilms, with over 66% those collected Girgaon Malvan beaches exhibiting presence. These positively screened also displayed comparatively rough structures, enhancing colonisation. Microplastic ageing polymer type could affect Diatoms fungal hyphae exhibit varied interactions polymers. Notably, host various reproductive stages fungi, evidenced filamentous networks, mycelia, conidiophores.
