The emerging technology in biomedical engineering requires biocompatible materials, which are also referred to as biomaterials. For a material be considered biocompatible, it should not interact with human tissues harmful way, and vice versa. Various properties of such mechanical optical properties, have for different applications. One the most popular applications biomaterials is contact lenses. Hydrogels, specifically poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) hydrogels, among ones ophthalmologic applications, especially soft This paper reviews use PHEMA hydrogels one important possible manufacturing process lens addressed. Many studies shown that possess many advantages promising development prospects.

In the human cornea, regeneration of epithelium is regulated by stem cell reservoir limbus, which marginal region cornea representing anatomical and functional border between corneal conjunctival epithelium. support this concept, extensive limbal damage, e.g., chemical or thermal injury, inflammation, surgery, may induce deficiency (LSCD) leading to vascularization opacification eventually vision loss. These acquired forms occur uni- bilaterally, important for choice treatment. Moreover, a variety inherited diseases, such as congenital aniridia dyskeratosis congenita, are characterized LSCD typically occurring bilaterally. Several techniques autologous allogenic transplantation have been established. The limbus can be restored whole grafts, small biopsies ex vivo-expanded cells. review, physiology epithelium, pathophysiology LSCD, therapeutic options will presented.
