Intestinal parasites, including helminths and protozoa, account for a significant portion of the global health burden. The gastrointestinal (GI) tract not only serves as stage these parasitic infections but also residence millions microbes. As intricacies GI microbial milieu continue to unfold, it is becoming increasingly apparent that interactions between host, parasite, resident microbes help dictate parasite survival and, ultimately, disease outcomes. Across both clinical experimental models, intestinal parasites have been shown impact composition diversity. Reciprocally, can directly influence survival, colonization expulsion. gut microbiota indirectly through manipulation host. Studying this host–parasite–microbiota axis may bring about novel therapeutic strategies infection well conditions such inflammatory bowel (IBD). In review, we explore relationship with particular focus on common protozoa helminths, microbiota, how host defence immune response. We will tripartite in setting its broader implications human health.
