The widespread presence of pharmaceuticals in wastewater effluents after treatment stands as a significant challenge faced the field management and public health. Governments scientific community have worked to meet this urgent need for effective solutions. Nevertheless, development detection strategies pharmaceutical monitorization capable delivering rapid, on-site, sensitive responses remains an ongoing necessity. In work, performance previously developed molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) based electrochemical sensor detecting atorvastatin (ATV) surface waters is presented. A simple preconcentration method followed by measurements differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) 0.1 M phosphate buffer (pH = 7), was implemented. analytical results were validated with those obtained on set 16 water samples ultra-high liquid chromatography coupled tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). Additionally, life cycle assessment (LCA) conducted compare environmental impact both methodologies. demonstrated that ATV using MIP-sensor reliable when compared found UHPLC-MS/MS presenting robust linear correlation coefficient 0.843. LCA show novel technique has lower associated impacts than UHPLC-MS/MS, current protocol applied. These findings highlight potential eco-friendly tool routine analysis point-of-care monitoring WWTP samples.

The presence of contaminants emerging concern in aquatic ecosystems represents an ever-increasing environmental problem. Aquatic biota is exposed to these contaminants, which can be absorbed and distributed their organs. This study focused on the assessment, distribution, ecological risk 32 CECs a Spanish river impacted by effluents from wastewater treatment plant, analyzing organs plasma common carp. Environmental concentrations water sediment were examined at sites upstream downstream plant. two showed 15 times higher total (12.4 μg L−1 30.1 L−1) than (2.08 1.66 L−1). Half detected fish organs, with amantadine having highest kidney (158 ng g−1 w.w.) liver (93 w.w.), followed terbutryn, diazepam, bisphenol F brain (50.2, 3.82 1.18 w.w.). experimental bioaccumulation factors per organ compared bioconcentration predicted physiologically based pharmacokinetic model, obtaining differences one logarithmic units for most compounds. Risk quotients indicated low 38 % contaminants. However, caffeine terbutryn elevated fish. mixed quotient revealed medium samples three compartments: surface water, sediment,
