As in many other building types, space efficiency mid-rise timber apartment buildings is one of the critical design parameters to make a project feasible. Space depends on varying selection criteria related construction materials, methods, and proper planning. To date, no study provides comprehensive understanding buildings. This paper examined data from 55 Finnish built between 2018 2022 under Land Use Building Act increase which factors influence The main findings this indicated that: (1) among case studies, ranged 77.8% 87.9%, average was 83%; (2) mean values ratios structural wall area gross floor area, vertical circulation technical spaces (including shafts) were found be 12.9%, 2.6%, 1.5%, respectively; (3) methods or shear materials significant difference terms efficiency, there scientific correlation number stories efficiency; (4) best achieved with central core type, followed by peripheral arrangement. research will contribute guidelines for clients, developers, architects, professionals projects.

The management and governance of forests must consider the synergies trade-offs between different societal goals, especially with bioeconomy being a key factor in recent sectoral strategies worldwide. This literature review explores multidimensional concept trade-offs, focusing on scientific publications dealing European forest bioeconomy. objectives are twofold: 1) to provide an overview reviewed literature, including publication outlets, disciplinary diversity, geographic scope studies; 2) analyze assessed by articles, temporal assessment, value chain segment considered, methods used, policy implications research gaps identified. results show that concentrates Finland, Sweden, Germany, three largest roundwood producers EU. is highly multidisciplinary (with strong presence social sciences), employing variety qualitative quantitative methods. Out 138 studies reviewed, 22% explicitly and/or reported were widely varied, while most commonly related wood production versus climate change mitigation, biodiversity, more generally other ecosystem services. use synergy trade-off concepts often inexact, articulated frequently formulated generic terms, emphasizing communication. findings recommendations this thus relevance for both practitioner/policy community.

Abstract How scientists frame problems impact the solutions offered. Since late 1940s development has been equated with modernization, technology adoption, and economic growth. Contrasting to this technocentric view, an ecocentric view developed since 1960s. Despite criticism of views increasing evidence that modern human societies are not reaching their environmental social goals, have remained predominant in sustainable discourse. Using a Kuhnian lens, divide between perspectives can be framed as distinct paradigms within This paper outlines continuation worldviews sustainability transition studies. It shows socio‐technical theory fails break growth‐focused approaches progress development. The concludes by outlining what could gained if became more weight.

Facilitating the transformation of innovation systems is a vital endeavor within global quest to diminish detrimental environmental consequences economic activities. Against this background, scholars and policymakers emphasize potentials societal transition towards 'bioeconomy'. In paper, we study technological specialization countries in biobased technologies relating chemicals pharmaceuticals, which are key constituents for future bioeconomy. By identifying these patent publication data, analyse diversification processes 15 from 1997 2019. We find that already had relative advantage more likely develop new specializations relate Beyond that, countries' varies between basic research (scientific publications) applied (patents). Our also shows greater complexity tends limit publications, highlighting need targeted policy interventions supporting

Preferring regenerated cellulosic fibers (RCFs) over alternative textile can avoid fossil-based emissions. The estimation of substitution impacts relies on a host market assumptions, such as which products are substituted and to what extent. This study introduces systematic framework for identifying the existence rate based microeconomic theory econometric analysis. Four datasets two theoretical models were applied set empirical model formulations, including OLS in first differences, autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL), vector error correction (VECM), linear approximate almost ideal demand system (LA-AIDS). selection was informed by tests non-stationarity, cointegration, autocorrelation, multicollinearity, normality heteroskedasticity. results point being imperfect substitutes cotton with an ratio 32–46%, mostly independent from polyester 0–13%. That is, unit increase supply RCFs every second third cotton, while synthetics is unlikely. changes marginal impact net avoided fossil emission 2.17 tCO2eq./t caused 0.29 tCO2eq./t, average. effect adopting twofold: benefit remains lower due substitution, rest additional contributes expanding aggregate instead substituting alternatives. result serves baseline simulating policy interventions or product portfolios.
