Abstract The investigation of the toxic potential a newly introduced herbicide, Florpyrauxifen-benzyl (FPX), on Nile tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus ) was aim this study. For 96 h, median lethal concentration (LC 50 assessed in fish juveniles using Probit analysis following exposure to five concentrations FPX (2–3 ppm). investigating some mechanisms toxicity, were allocated into three groups (0, 0.27 and 0.54 ppm FPX) cut-off intervals at 7 15 days. Liver malondialdehyde (MDA) reduced glutathione (GSH) levels assessed. In addition, superoxide dismutase (SOD) catalase (CAT) evaluated both transcriptional enzymatic activity levels. Histopathological effects liver erythrocytic nuclear abnormalities (ENAs) monitored too. 96h-LC found be 2.61 ppm, revealing tilapia. Concentrations induced oxidative stress by altering activities antioxidant enzymes their transcripts. genotoxic effect evidenced significant P < 0.05) increase micronuclei (MNs) ENA frequencies. Significant histopathological alterations observed concentrations, with highest FPX. Results suggest that may exert oxidative, genotoxic, non-targeted species such as if it is used improperly. Although could an indicator for materials aquatic habitat, future studies other organisms, or durations are recommended.

Abstract Rice paddies are unique ecosystems that provide rich wetland habitat. Their enduring existence across vast stretches of land has led them to evolve into systems serving a diverse assemblage organisms and sustaining staple grain for many people. With food demand rising, agricultural intensification through agrochemical application is common practice used boost production in developing countries, including Sri Lanka. The aim the present study was assess concentration pesticide residues water rice discover their potential impacts on both environmental health most fauna groups cropping year A total 270 samples from waters associated with paddy fields within watershed were analyzed 20 commonly pesticides; addition, local farm holders surveyed usage details three selected tracts. We then Cornell University impact quotient (EIQ) calculator ECOTOX Knowledgebase determine exposure risk individual pesticides relative rates aquatic concentrations. Survey results demonstrate several overapplied at 1.2–11 times recommended application, EIQ demonstrated high two agrochemicals detected, 2‐methyl‐4‐chlorophenoxyacetic diazinon. Fish, amphibians, insects, beetles found have wide range adverse outcomes diazinon, captan, thiamethoxam, chlorantraniliprole. To balance trade‐offs between security ecosystem sustainability, recommends adoption quantifiable indicators be considered as part national policy regulating use.
