ABSTRACT Beaches are among the world's most important coastal ecosystems, within which surf zones crucial providers of essential ecosystem services to humans. We completed first estimate current and potential monetary value fishery resources in beaches on southwestern Iberian Peninsula. Over 1 year, five Gulf Cádiz were sampled using a beach seine. For valuation, average first‐sale prices used, with capital update based Consumer Price Index (CPI). The 189.16 kg 38 commercial species captured had (PMV) 408.63 €/ha. annual adult fish (19 species) averaged 115.05 €/ha juvenile (33 293.58 Our findings highlight as resources, similar other marine ecosystems. useful for ongoing monitoring research enhance knowledge these areas array they provide.

Coastal areas provide cultural ecosystem services that contribute to the well-being of society, but these are often undervalued due methodological challenges. Assessment economic value beach recreation is crucial for effective coastal management and conservation. This paper presents a comprehensive evaluation recreational along Greek coasts, using various methodologies such as contingent valuation crowdsourced service mapping via Flickr. Our findings indicate total beaches during summer period amounts 21.4 billion € annually. The maximum per estimated at 232 million year on Santorini island, Caldera with surface 1 hectare, one Greece's most renowned destinations. Through detailed mapping, our study unveils substantial variations in monetary services. average stands 6.7 €/ha/year, range from 0 highlighting diverse contributions recreation. Profiling visitors uncovers differences preferences across age groups, environmental awareness action being prominent. Factors deterring visits, port hotel presence, outweigh attractions, accessibility primary desirable factor. These highlight significance valuable insights management, policy-making.
