Collective and citizen-driven activities for energy transition have been thriving globally in recent decades.Community innovation (CEI) developed through hands-on engagement with materials has garnered increasing attention from the interdisciplinary research community. The scholarly discussion highlighted role of materiality its relation to collective agency, inclusion, approaches participation.Accordingly, paying CEI can clarify sociotechnical aspects which commonly understood either solely a social or technical view.Furthermore, fostering citizens' take-up renewable more democratic ways is prerequisite accelerating arguably best done via material, engagement. However, focus on materiality, particularly material engagement, community appears be fragmented. Therefore, we conducted systematic literature review better understand how researchers approach CEI.The results analyzing 36 papers highlight that studied fields diverse methods, identify four types networks such emerges. We also geographically dispersed Do-It-Yourself enthusiast-led innovations go beyond existing understanding CEI.More importantly, network may change over time place because configurational nature decentralized smallscale technologies. However, studying materially-engaged needs further efforts integrate empirical data centrally knowledge base concretely define plays out innovation.

The urgency for China to attain carbon neutrality has driven the world’s largest carbon-emitting nation seek more effective climate and energy policies. adoption of smart grid (SG) technologies, aimed at enabling accelerating shift from fossil fuel-dependent systems sustainable ones, garnered mounting policy interest in China. However, full potential SG development yet be realised amidst ongoing electricity market reforms country.
