Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Part L Journal of Materials Design and Applications, Journal Year: 2025, Volume and Issue: unknown

Published: Jan. 12, 2025

In this study, three different ant-inspired lattice design types: single, double, and inverted double structures were considered due to ants’ excellent load-carrying weight ratio. Lattice fabricated using the 3D printing method polylactic acid filament was used as a material. The true blueprint images of ant obtain parametric dimensions structure. Hence, presented innovative for designing can be promising option industrial sectors requiring high-strength structures. quasi-static axial compression tests conducted evaluate performance novel single compared based on specific force, energy absorption, stiffness at height values. deformation stages damage regions analyzed identify their critical during tests. results indicated that value increased, there notable decrease in stiffness, along with buckling Among types, structure showed better structure; however, 30 mm exhibited highest overall performance.

Journal of Sandwich Structures & Materials, Journal Year: 2025, Volume and Issue: unknown

Published: March 28, 2025

The cores of sandwich structures are typically produced monolithically using lightweight materials and specific geometries. In recent years, the advancements in additive manufacturing have enabled design production novel core configurations with auxetic behavior high energy absorption capability. this study, an innovative approach, namely adhesively bonded cores, was proposed to ensure significant advantages for industrial applications. Each part printed separately then epoxy-based adhesive. To evaluate mechanical performance structures, three-point four-point bending tests DIC (Digital Image Correlation) analyses were conducted. test results compared those monolithic effectiveness method evaluated. Re-entrant, star-shaped, V-shaped terms performances structures. Monolithic showed similar as far load-carrying capacity, deformation stages, crashworthiness concerned based on three tests. Hence, approach can be applied enhance their repairability support sustainable manufacturing.
