Abstract Phthalic acid esters are emerging pollutants, commonly used as plasticizers that categorized hazardous endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). A rise in anthropogenic activities leads to an increase phthalate concentration the environment which various adverse environmental effects and health issues humans other aquatic organisms. This paper gives overview of research related ester contamination degradation methods by conducting a bibliometric analysis with VOS Viewer. Ecotoxicity requires understanding current status pollution, impacts, exposure routes, their sources. review covers five toxic phthalates, occurrences environment, toxicity studies, biodegradation pathways. It highlights advanced oxidation processes like photocatalysis, Fenton processes, ozonation, sonolysis, modified AOPs for removal from environment.

Due to their prevalence in urban contaminated water, the driving factors of organophosphate esters (OPEs) need be well examined, and related ecological impacts should include that transformation products (TPs). Additionally, a robust framework needs developed integrate multiple variables for improving health assessment. Therefore, OPEs TPs stormwater wastewater Hong Kong were analyzed fill these gaps. The results revealed total concentrations positively correlated with area transportation land. Individual TP mass ratios individual TPs/OPEs somewhat higher sewage effluents than stormwater. generally showed relatively risk quotients TPs; however, increased by approximately 38% when factored in. Moreover, molecular docking suggested investigated might cause similar endocrine disruption marine organisms as parent OPEs. This study employed Toxicological-Priority-Index scheme successfully risks endocrine-disrupting effects refine assessment exposure TPs, which can better inform authority on prioritization regulating contaminants emerging concern built environments.

Phthalate esters (PAEs) have been investigated in paired air and seawater samples collected onboard the research vessel SONNE South China Sea summer of 2019. The concentrations ∑7PAEs ranged from 2.84 to 24.3 ng/m3 with a mean 9.67 ± 5.86 0.96 8.35 ng/L 3.05 seawater. Net air-to-seawater deposition dominated air–sea exchange fluxes DiBP, DnBP, DMP, DEP, while strong water-to-air volatilization was estimated for bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP). net atmospheric depositions were 3740 t/y sum but DEHP volatilized an average 900 t/y. seasonally changing monsoon circulation, currents, cyclones occurring Pacific can significantly influence concentration PAEs, alter direction magnitude particle fluxes. Consequently, dynamic process may drive transport PAEs marginal seas estuaries toward remote marine environments, which play important role environmental cycling global ocean.
