The study aimed to appraise groundwater quality in the Mekong Delta using a index (GWQI) and estimate human health risks associated with consumption. Groundwater samples were collected at sixty wells distributed An Giang, Kien Hau Giang Dong Thap provinces. Twelve water parameters measured, including pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), hardness, coliform, nitrate (NO3ˉ), nitrite (NO2ˉ), ammonium (NH4+), sulfate (SO42-), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), arsenic (As) cadmium (Cd). results compared national regulation on quality. findings of this indicated that was contaminated microorganisms some heavy metals (Fe, Mn, As). This related anthropogenic activities, such as improperly treated domestic wastewater agricultural industrial wastes. Based GWQI, 30% classified very good for drinking purposes. However, over 26% all unsuitable drinking. In terms risk assessment, children rather susceptible cancer adverse effects through As-contaminated than adults. consuming adults up 4.28×10-3that is higher acceptable risk. highest aggregate hazard quotient metal-contaminated 9.54, which means they could suffer effects. an indispensable source freshwater Delta; thus, home treatments are recommended protect public health, in-depth assessment should be conducted. Abstract Assessing groundwater quality is critical to regional water resource conservation and human health safety, especially in areas with co-existence of toxic constituents fluoride (F − ) arsenic (As). In this study, fourteen samples were collected Feng County, Northwestern Jiangsu Province identify dominant contaminants their spatial distribution risk. The composition variation characteristics major ions (K + , Na Ca 2+ Mg Cl SO 4 2− HCO 3 NO trace elements As, Mn) analyzed. hydrochemical results revealed that high F was mainly distributed the northern whereas As-riched primarily southern areas. Notably, over 85.7% 21.4% shallow exceeded drinking standard 1.5 mg/L for 10 µg/L respectively. Based on index (WQI) appraisal result, 71.4% study area classified as “poor”, thus unsuitable directly. We assessed non-carcinogenic risk (HQ Fluoride As Arsenic carcinogenic (CR ). calculated hazard quotient (HQ) indicated nearly all have an unacceptable > 1) each age group. However, HQ values 28.6%, 21.4%, posed potential risks infants, children, females, males, CR showed 0%, 28.6% 1.0 × −4 irrigation suitability assessment doubtful irrigation, owed magnesium hazards. findings will assist policymakers formulating proper remedial policies mitigation strategies ensure safety water.
