ABSTRACT This paper aims to provide an overview of the geochemistry and mineralogical characterisation coal within Sohagpur coalfield, located in Burhar–Amlai Sub Basin Madhya Pradesh, India. The study involves determination proximate ultimate analysis components, major elements, trace elements by using various techniques, including x‐ray diffraction (XRD), fluorescence (XRF), oranic petrography, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) Scanning Electron Microscopy–Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM‐EDS). Petrological studies identify types macerals minerals associated coals, assess their concentration, examine association with found samples. Our research also delves into environmental implications these particularly those considered environmentally sensitive, such as As, Cd, Co, Cr, Mn, Ni, Pb, Th U. These findings are crucial for understanding potential impact utilisation coal. identified several sources coal, silicate (Quartz Feldspar), oxides (Haematite, Rutile Anatase), sulphides (Pyrite Marcasite), sulphates (Gypsum) carbonates (Calcite). Recognising sensitive components is vital they require mitigation or elimination before minimise risks. delivers a valuable geochemical composition characteristics highlighting importance considerations resources.
