The distribution and abundance of microplastics into the world are so extensive that many scientists use them as key indicators recent contemporary period defining a new historical epoch: Plasticene. However, implications not yet thoroughly understood. There is considerable complexity involved to understand their impact due different physical–chemical properties make multifaceted stressors. If, on one hand, carry toxic chemicals in ecosystems, thus serving vectors transport, they themselves, other cocktail hazardous added voluntarily during production additives increase polymer prolong life. To date, there lack knowledge major concern used plastic industry, fate once dispose environment, consequent effects human health when associated with micro nanoplastics. present study emphasizes most dangerous chemical substances contained all products describe these health, providing detailed overview studies have investigated microplastics. In the environment, microplastics are subjected to multiple aging processes; however, information regarding impact of on environmental behavior is still lacking. This study investigated alteration properties polystyrene and high-density polyethylene by heat-activated K2S2O8 Fenton treatments improve understanding their long-term natural in aquatic environments. Our results indicated that O/C ratio was an alternative parameter carbonyl index (CI) quantitatively describe surface microplastics. The correlation model or CI versus time developed compared freshwater samples. Moreover, regression equation equilibrium adsorption capacity altered average size proposed. first effort differentiating relationships between time/adsorption microplastics, which would be helpful for predicting weathering degree accumulation hydrophilic antibiotics onto aged research develops promising strategies accelerate reactions using advanced oxidation processes, provide further assess microplastic pollution actual

Microplastics (MPs) are regarded as a global issue due to their toxicity effects on fish and humans. Fish is vital origin of human protein, which necessary for body growth. Contamination by MPs major hazard that requires special focus. After exposure alone or in combination with other pollutants, may experience variety health issues. can cause tissue damage, oxidative stress, changes immune-related gene expression well antioxidant status fish. being exposed MPs, suffer from neurotoxicity, growth retardation, behavioral abnormalities. The consequences poorly understood. Due the abundance environment, occur via consumption, inhalation, skin contact. Humans cytotoxicity, immune system disruption, transfer tissues after them. toxic both still unknown. This detailed review has potential add existing knowledge about ecotoxicity humans, will be useful forthcoming study.

Microplastics have become one of the leading environmental threats due to their persistence, ubiquity and intrinsic toxic potential. The potential harm that microplastics impose on ecosystems varies from direct effects (i.e., entanglement ingestion) ability sorb a diversity pollutants (e.g., heavy metals, persistent organic compounds or pharmaceuticals). Therefore, toxicological assessment combined sorbed can produce in biota is hottest topics toxicology field. This review aims clarify main impacts this interaction could by (1) highlighting principal factors influence sorption capacities; (2) discussing scenarios which may an essential role bioaccumulation transfer chemicals; (3) reviewing recently published studies describing caused combination chemicals. Finally, discussion regarding need for new generation presented.

High bioavailability of microplastics (MPs) in the marine environment has raised serious concern during last few decades. Nevertheless, trophic transfer MPs within edible parts food webs remain unknown. In this study, bioaccumulation, biomagnification, and potential human intake muscles gills five popular commercial species (3 fish, 1 crab, prawn) from Persian Gulf were investigated. The surface structure characteristics material elemental composition signatures used to screen for likely rule out non-plastics. Among studied species, Penaeus semisulcatus Epinephelus coioides displayed highest (mean 0.360 items/g muscle) lowest 0.158 level their muscles, respectively. number extracted was higher than muscle analyzed especially when it comes scavengers filter feeders such as (Liza klunzingeri, Portunus armatus, P. semisulcatus). The results magnification factor (TMF) biomagnification (BMF) calculation indicated that not biomagnified web Gulf. Hence, contrary previous belief, dilution occurs rather seafood. assessment highlights possible risks posed by seafood consumption population depending a great extent on diet. Considering physical chemical toxicity associated contaminants, routine high doses should be controlled vulnerable groups pregnant/lactating women children ensure safety.
